    Hi everyone,

Can anyone identify this lovely cutting for me? It was taken from a shrub planted in a barrel container that my previous neighbour left me when she moved house. My mum & I cut it back last year as it was very high and my mum put two cuttings into a pot and this one survived. It's at least two feet tall and I should probably re-pot it in a bigger container to allow growth.

I was so happy to see such beautiful white flowers on it today but I have no idea what the plant is called. I just took a quick picture with my mobile phone (basic, not a smartphone) so the foliage doesn't show too clearly. Can take pics with my digital camera if needed. 27-06-14_1632.jpg

Thanks in advance for any help :)

    Pauline.

From that photo it looks rather like on of the Philadelphus genus.
    Better photos would help.

Looks like a philadelphus coronarius to me. AKA Mock Orange. Usually beautifully scented.

It can grow very big and ungainly but I struggle to get the pruning right so it always flowers properly as if I cut it too soon before flowering then I end up cutting away flowering wood. I think it's best in a large, wild garden where it can be allowed its head.

I've allowed mine to go a bit this year as I planted my Bomarea at its base. Plan is that as the flowers fade on the Philly clusters of Bomarea flowers should be bursting out all over it.

That was brave, in my garden the bomarea would disappear without trace under a canopy of rank philly foliage where only slugs roam. Let us know how you get on.

There gets a point where the tubers are outgrowing the pot and you just have to take the plunge. They're about 30cm deep and it is RAMPANT! The slimeys do like the shoots as the emerge, but I got nasty with the slug pellets! The clusters are emerging and they're very full - a dozen flowers upwards in each cluster.

Thanks, longk, that's exactly what it is!

I Googled the name, saw lots of pictures and that confirmed it for me.

        Many thanks :)

I'm assuming it will be by what I've read, but so far I haven't had the pleasure of the scent due to having a cold :sick0026:

We took cuttings probably in October of last year - very late bit of last minute gardening. The original plant is in a barrel and was around 8 feet high when we cut it down to about 5ft. It's flowering but it looks as if the cutting has more flowers on it - maybe due to it being in full sun all day. It's in a blue glazed pot which isn't very deep, so I'm thinking of moving it into a bigger pot at the end of the summer - and take some more cuttings.

          Appreciate the reply :)
