Friday and Saturday were real stinkers, no sun whatsoever and temperatures pegged back to 15c, however I did get some welcome rain. Today however is like a different world in comparison, the sun is shining and the temperatures have responded nicely as a result, up to 21.1c. Managed to get the lawn cut and the borders tidied up and some light summer pruning to keep things in check. Really happy with how things are looking and its million times better than last year, with new borders and new plants.

Looks great John. I must have missed last year's pictures so, if you can find any, I'd love to see the transformation,

These are late summer last year, I have only joined this site in April so no photos on here from last year. No arid bed on the front or border down the right hand side of my back garden, all other borders extended also.

          Looks good.

Is the Phoenix ok outside over winter?
Do you cover it with fleece? Or anything else?

The larger ones in the back were planted in October 2011 and were unprotected during their first winter down to -7c, they were okay but I was less experienced and I wouldn't do it again. Since then I drape 2-3 fleeces over them lightly if temps are expected to drop below -4c. These are removed daily as allow airflow and any sun to benefit them. Since last summer they have really took off and putting on 3-4 new leaves a year. Protection was not needed this last winter.

            Are they Phoenix canariensis?
            Or theophrasti?
