    Me neither. If I went for a "blast" it would be at night/ early morning. When it's dark you only have wildlife to contend with (but no birds to duck).

    And most modern cars you can't hear noise from outside, in Marleys picture he is hard to see but if you are there you may have heard him/her first before you seen him/her, also in that bit of the road the use of the horn wouldn't go a miss

    Be safe be seen

      I've seen an increase in motorcyclists wearing hi-vis around here, and that can only be a good thing; whilst the usual day-glow yellow/green is fine, I have seen other colours and some of the pinks/oranges are even more effective, especially in daylight hours as they stand out.

      If it were up to me, I would make it compulsory that all cyclists and motorcyclists wear hi-vis clothing (and enforce that it is clean and in good condition), and would even extend that to actively encouraging pedestrians having to wear hi-vis armbands or hi-vis vest in poorly lit or unlit areas. I'd also force a countrywide reassessment of street lighting, establish a standard for the level and quality of light (white light, directed to the area being lit to reduce or negate light pollution, and a meaningful lux level at pavement/road level) and force all local authorities to change their lighting to that standard and maintain that standard going forward.

      Finally, I would force a full re-assessment of all roads with a view to de-cluttering them, widening the carriageway where possible/necessary and ensuring that pavement and road surfaces are smooth, clean and with enough space for vehicles and cycles/motorcycles to safely co-exist.

          Much as I am not a lover of cyclists, mostly due to some of them being really militant and provocative in their behaviour, I understand why they are like that. Sure, there are bad drivers and bad cyclists alike, but in truth the real problem is that our roads are no longer fit for purpose, mostly due to roads, pavements, junctions and crossings etc all being viewed individually instead of looking at how they integrate and how space could be optimised for ALL.

              TBH, what I saw was a load of trees without leaves and I wondered whether Marley was about to point out a virus that was spreading through them; I did not see the bike or his headlight,

                  Totally agree @Jiffy, but that respect could be helped along by more considerate road design

                  No offence, but I hope so!!
                  On a serious note though, a couple of things to consider before you beat yourself up over it;
                  a] If you were just about to pull out of that junction then the bike would be moving. That would catch your eye.
                  and
                  b] If you were unfamiliar with the road you would almost certainly be being extra cautious anyway.

                    I am usually bike aware, If I see them coming up behind me I will move over to the edge of my lane to give them that bit of extra space when they pass.
                    However, I think to much emphasis is placed on the education of drivers. An excuse I often hear from bikers and cyclists is "we are more squishy so you should take care around us", I agree with this, but just because a driver is expected to be more "aware" a lot of our 2 wheel friends seem to think they do not need to take any responsibility for their actions while on the road.

                    At the end of they day, drivers should be aware of bikes around them, but bikers need to be aware of their own mortality.

                    If I am honest the “Think Bike” slogan annoys me, not because I don’t think we shouldn’t “Think Bike” but it seems the driver is being singled out and expected to take responsibility for the actions of bikes as well. At the end of the day bikers should have similar messages aimed at them that encourage them to drive responsibly “think safety”

                    Even though I have ranted a bit, I have nothing against bikers, and have never had a bad encounter with them, I have seen a few that made me think knob. Bicyclists.. now that's a whole different story, and if I start on that I will never stop

                      hope it leaves a warning alert in his brain cell for the next time he thinks about employing overtaking risks,
