    Hi guys

I have a couple of bird feeders which are regularly emptied so when the contents of one of them didn't move for a few days, I checked it, only to find 5 slugs hiding inside and the food cover in slime.

So, I bought some copper tape and created this fortress

I checked it again today, and the tell tale slime was all over the feeder and I found this behind the feeder. - Conclusion, copper tape is a waste of money

I have come to the conclusion that most of these home remedies are a waste of time.
The only thing that really works are pellets.

I won't use pellets because of the harm they do to Hedgehogs

Frogs! But they might take umbrage to being stapled on the fence.

Put a cap between the bird holder and the fence may help

So that it protrudes from the fence you mean?

Yep, then the slugs can't slide and hide

I find doing regular slug walk checks, especially after its rained, really beneficial i collect them into a small plastic plant pot and then salt them. the amount i find in the garden now has reduced by a 5th

So regular slug massacres helps reduce the amount you will have and will eventually eradicate the problem

I know its horrible but oh well lol

I must have collected 100-130 slugs and snails and relocated them a car and train journey away, but that doesn't seem to made a dent in their numbers :frown:

We should have had a harder winter.

No, I don't really mean that! I think I'd rather have slugs than chilblains.

Using a 'vine eye' rather than a 'screw eye' would move the feeder out from the fence.

Perhaps someone who lives a train ride and a car journey away from you is doing the same thing?

I would use a small hanging basket bracket to hang it about 6" from the fence.
WD40 acts as a slug deterrent , but the smell may deter the birds as well !
