I haven't a clue what a haybob would be.

We have next to no grain crops here Jiffy, just the odd field here and there. But what is here this year has ripened well, we've had so little rain. Most farming here is specialist breeds of sheep and cattle which are suited to the hilly/mountainous terrain.

The haybob in your picture is used to turn the grass and then when it's ready you change the setting from turning to rowing and row it up for baling, but now the machines have got bigger and one machine for turning and one for rowing up

I like seeing the Stooks at harvest rather than the roll of crops................

There's a couple of farms in Cheshire, Rutland and Peterborough that still use stooks but they, I believe, supply local bakeries. Most material used for thatching is Combed Wheat Reed, Long Straw Thatch, and Water Reed. I think that somewhere in Scotland they sometimes use Heather....which could be lucky:heehee:

Armandii, there's an historical village in the south of the island. The people that live there are in the dress of the era and the whole village functions the same way year in year out, the same goes for the farming and that's the only place here we'll see the stooks. I'll have to pay it a visit and get some shots. :)

Is it just me that looks at an old weathered timber pile on a beach and thinks it looks like a Meerkat?
