Stunning Longk, decided I must have some Triphylla, but will contain myself, should I buy in Autumn and over winter in unheated greenhouse, or order early in Spring.

      Browsed the sites, thanks Kristen
Will be ordering from one or both :loll:of them.

I would always get my triphylla Fuchsia in the spring. Even the small plugs seen in GCs rapidly produce big and strong plants.

Mine (from a plant you kindly sent me) has tumbled over the side of the raised bed and reached the ground already :) I'll take a photo when I'm out that way with camera in hand.

Not very adventurous but I think my Jack Stanway looks good and has come on well. I really like the colouring. [IMG]

I bought quite a few new ones this year. Some have done better than others - I particularly like the giant ones - Tuonela, Cecile and my favourite, Purple Rain, which is absolutely stunning :wow:

I'm going to keep them in pots in a sheltered position over winter and see if they survive, but if not I'll definitely be buying more plug plants next spring.

What's everyone doing with their hardy fuchsias over winter? I have five, three hawksheads, one Jack Stanway and one golden treasure. The Jack Stanway in particular, but also the hawksheads have had fuchsia rust this year.

Is my best bet to chop them right down along each stem to a node and strip all of the foliage now to give them the best bet of being rust free next year? Or should I wait a while / not do that at all?

I leave mine until the spring before a tidy up...............

It has rather become a favourite of mine too!

I gave my Hawkshead a prune recently as it's lost most of it's leaves due to frost and because the gales we get here during the autumn/winter will damage it. I've also supported it with a couple of canes to stop wind rock.
