I'm trying something maverick this year (well ... its been maverick in previous years too ... but not at all sure how this year will turn out!)

I saw Monty Don planting Dahlia David Howard (which has be a monster for me) and some Cannas. I had a couple of spare cuttings of David Howard so I have chucked then, and some Cannas, in the planters. I have added some climbers to "dangle" including Rhodochiton atrosanguineum and Mina lobata Jungle Queen. I've put some Cyperus papyrus in there two, along with some large leaf Coleus and Ipomoea batatas ('Sweet Caroline Purple' and the like).

Might turn out a Dog's Breakfast ... if not I'll post some photos in due course :)

      Don't like it too wet?

Like a fair amount of moisture?

      Aquatic plant?

The Rhodochiton does make a good trailer though:blue thumb:

Indeed. However I have grown it in borders before, and it has been reasonably neglected / not watered often enough, and it has been fine. The tubs will be watered every other day, so I reckon that will be enough to get some distinctive heads popping up amongst the Canna and Dahlia ... time will tell though :)

Even if it does turn out a dog's breakfast, I'm sure Loli will say that Theo and Archi would want to see it! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

It's been a joy looking through these photos, what a talented bunch you are! I'd never have thought of growing sweet peas in a hanging basket but they look super. I'm going to give it a try next year, I always grow too many anyway!
