Thought about buying a commercial greenhouse that came up on eBay the other day ... 30X x 20M x 4M high for £1K. A lot of work to disassemble, cart back to base, and re-assemble, but it would be a fabby structure to have my veg patch in. Too much else on at the mo though, but I seriously hope that when I have time available a bargain like that will spring up again

I know, its pretty unheard of isn't it. And going to make me as miserable as a miserable thing ... but we have way too much on over the next couple of months.

Consoled myself with buying 10M of Haddenstone style Ballustrade for a touch over £150 from Mr eBay
Haddenstone pricelist says "Guide price per metre run, excluding piers" is £325.20 :hate-shocked: and the piers add £151.20 and there are enough of them for about 1 ever other metre. No idea why the auction finished as low as that, but I only bid £200 so was only looking for a cheeky-outcome :) Had to borrow a vehicle though as I calculated it would be between 1.5 and 1.75 tonnes, which would be pushing it for my little people carrier :)

Got into trouble with Mrs K nonetheless - Probably not helped by the pallet, stacked 6' high, with potting compost and the like, which I failed to unpack quickly enough and was wtill stood in the middle of the drive when she came home!

            A quick update...

I've been busy working etc recently, so clearing the plot just hasn't happened, all I have managed to do, is the occasional weeding/hoeing of planted areas, the rest has got a little overgrown.

Here are a few pics of how the plants etc are doing.

            some chillis :-

                  Brilliant! :blue thumb:

I'm very jealous of your runner beans ( where's the 'green with envy' smilie?) as ours have been rabbited . Our replacements are coming on OK - after the rabbits had been served in a pot.

All your chillies look good. Have you had any ripe ones from my plant? We've been eating them for a few weeks.

Thanks, as I have told Donna, the beans are only just starting, so I think we are going to be getting plenty when they step up a gear. It is the Dwarf French Beans that she really likes, as she has never had 'fresh' always from a tin ...... I may have converted her :)

I know how you feel about rabbits having a nibble, I have lost one sweetcorn and a couple of bean plants to them, so I have been lucky in a way that they didn't decimate my plants.

I've had couple of chillis from your plant yes, picked and straight into my mouth, the first one I had gave me hiccups, they have got nice heat and flavour, I didn't know what kind of heat to expect.

The chilli plants have been a bit surprising this year. I have about twenty of them and all have been grown from seeds from just one chilli. The plants have produced different sized and shaped chillies and with different amounts of heat. None of them are the same as the parent plant! The parent plant is three years old and always produces very small, pretty hot, chillies - just like its own parents and grandparents :).

All the new plants have much bigger chillies that are not as hot - but the flavour is pretty good. Obviously there has been some cross pollination. I have three or four of them with each meal - but not with my porridge. :heehee:

                    Re damage:
Rabbits - 43 runner bean plants, 11 French beans, all our marrows, five courgettes, all our sunflowers, all our cosmos and a load of others.
Shiney - four rabbits, and no more losses.

As I say, I think I have got away lightly, as the allotment has got a high population of Rabbits, but I have planted a lot of plants later than I should, so maybe I planted when the plants weren't so tender and tasty ?

I've just spent the last hour or so enjoying this thread enormously - you've achieved SO much from your plot in just a few short months :blue thumb: I've just applied for an allotment so it's been inspiring to see what can be done in just a few months with a little bit of hard work :love30: The allotment I'm hoping for is just 5 minutes walk from where I live and has a few overgrown plots from what I can remember (haven't been up that way for a year or so since my last dog passed away) and the thought of 'taming' a jungle both terrifies and excites me :rolleyespink:

Good luck with the rest of 2014.....and can't wait to see more pics :blue thumb:
