I've totally lost my gardening mojo. I don't even like going out there any more. The beds and borders are all full of that awful coarse grass, and anything I plant is being devastated by slugs and snails.

Still, I'm never one to stay down. I think I might just blitz the lot with round up, and almost start again. I'd keep stuff like the willow den and tunnel, the fruit trees and bushes, and the round lawn, but just sack everything else. I have a enough Round up Concentrate to blitz a small country, so I might just do it starting tomorrow morning. Then next year I'll have a nice blank canvass for most of the garden.

Well at least that's doing something, which is better than doing nothing at all :)

What does Jane think about the plan though? And the little ones?

    You'm a family unit now :)

They probly don't care. I seem to be the only one in the house anyway that actually does anything out there these days. Perhaps because on some level, they hate it as much as I do.

              Its not all bad:)

Truth is, I'm not disappointed with how much I've achieved in the 4 years we've been here, except that I always set unrealistic targets for myself.

Wife and I have been sat outside in the garden drinking mucky beer most of the night, until it started raining, when we retreated to inside the willow den:)

Its all good. Most of that section of the garden will remain, but the borders will be blitzed, as will the play area just beyond, and 'far end' beyond that. 'Far end' is a bit of problem. That's a section of garden that has already been blitzed twice, yet still grows out of control. I've sprayed it, dug it, and burned it, yet still it is out of control. But I'm not one to accept defeat. Now the near end is under control, Far End gets my 100% focus, and will behave. I'm just going to be a bit more realistic in my targets. The new timeline says: 2015: Far End will be loosely under control. 2016: Far end and Near End will be tentatively as per plan. 2017: Play it by ear.

I hate to say it but when you no longer enjoy something then maybe it's time to take a break from it. I switch from hobby to hobby all the time and so never get bored of them and feel more refreshed when I return to the hobby that I was finding frustrating.

Slugs and snails are a pain and I have had the same troubles as you. I would try every organic way possible to stop them but in the end reverted to the slug pellets to keep them under control. I protect the slug pellets from birds and hedgehogs though by placing the pellets in jars or under chicekn wire screens so the birds don't eat them. Once the plant gets going then the slugs usually leave the plants alone.

So wonderful to read all your tales and your support for Clue this morning. We have all been to the "dark place " in the garden - me , with my ground elder which is gradually being overcome.
Clue, I think your target dates make it virtually guaranteed,
                    well done my friend,
                    Jenny

Sorry to hear about your woes Clueless - that's how I feel every day that I wake up facing another day at work. Thankfully I'm now able to spend more time at home seeking hard to source parts (and cars) leaving others to do the crap that I hate.

For what it's worth, my advice is to dig the borders out first (great way to vent that frustration), saving what you want to keep, and replant properly in the spring and summer of 2015. Decide on and seek out spring bulbs to plant this autumn. Seeing the borders looking the way that you wanted them to will spur you on with the rest.

As far as the rest goes, no targets, just take one job on and finish it before moving on to the next.

Its chucking it down today, so no Roundup blitz yet. Wife and I sat out there last night beer drinking, and I realised it is mostly ok. The areas to be blitzed have very few plants in anyway. I need to re-think the brick path/lawn edging a bit, but that's no big deal. The old blowaway greenhouse is going and will not be replaced, and the space it occupies will be used to modify the play area bit. 'Far end' will be blitzed in its entirety as it is mostly just coarse grass anyway, and having cleared that bit I'm going to do a brand new theme down there, though I've not decided what yet.
