Bamboo help

Can anyone help distinguish what type of bamboo this is please? It was left in a large pot from our old house which wasn't doing much at all. Since moving I have planted part of it in a border and it seems to be doing well. Haven't a clue how tall it could get. Any help would be great. Thanks, Adam.

Could it be a species of fargesia

 

It will be several years before you know as it gains strength it will put out larger culms. You want to make sure its not a "runner" though, as those will spread all over your garden - and probably come up through paving / concrete / tarmac too :( A "clumper" will be well behaved

But I don't know how to identify them, sorry.

Looks like a Arrow Bamboo to me, but could be wrong, I've got it growing in my garden but I planted it in a large plastic tub buried in the ground has I want to keep it contained.

 

I'm no expert, but I spent weeks digging out one very similar to this last year.

IF it is the same, it is a totally nondescript waste of space, with space being the operative word. It travels big style, under concrete, through pond liners and walking a good seven or eight metres. It also went down a good metre or more.
IF it is the same, remove it now and send it to the tip.

The leaves look similar to the Pseudosasa japonica you are saying, although the height hasn't changed much since planting. Do they take a while to get tall?

 

Yes they do .... once the roots establish they will take off
Remember ..... sleep, creep and then leap (or something like that LOL)
