Last couple of days have given some impressive thunder storms.

Here are some photos of todays storm from my bedroom window, it looks like something from independence day.

You would have to have very fast reactions to photograph lightening.

It really depends on the light, the images I took the night before were no where near as good, and to be honest without those clouds the photos wouldn't be worth posting.

Watch the storm and get an idea where most of the strikes are happening, then find a good spot and video it on full HD. then you can play it back frame by frame and select the images you want.

The way I do it is film a spot, and then as soon as a strike happens stop filming and then start filming again, that way you will know that any good lighting strikes you get will be at the end of the video so you don't have to sit there and watch it all the way through.

I am lucky that I had such a good view from the window, but that will all change when they start building there.

Great pictures Adam! You wouldn't see me for dust let alone take pictures. I've lived in three houses that have been struck by lightning and it's scary stuff! :sofa:

Good morning Adam great photos my friend:smile::blue thumb: Did you use Photoshop to enhance these at all:smile: Its the thunder that I find is almost impossible to photograph:heehee:

You should have plenty of time to practice as they say tonight could be a full night of storms all along the East of the country, and could last all week all over the UK in different locations, this is only a guide and not definite :sofa:

On my DSLR I would set my camera to Bulb setting /Tripod/cable release/manual focusing/F8-F11.and just click away at 3-5 seconds and upwards:smile:

                                Hi Wiseowl,

                                No photoshop involved :)

On the videos I took, the lightening was over in a blink, lucky if it lasts a second. Selecting the best frames from that video give it more impact that watching the video its self.

My problem with trying to take actual photos is, by the time your brain registers a flash, its all over by the time you push the button. if you set it to rapid fire you would end up with 100s if not 100s of photos in no time with nothing happening, and its sods law that as soon as you run out of space or stop taking them something will happen right infront of the camera.
