    Looking good Mowgley, my Brahia, when I had it only put one spear a year, lost it in the '10/11 Winter. My Butia which suffered severe frond damage the same Winter, is also very slow too just putting out it's first spear of the year although it doesn't get as much sun as it should.

    Do you protect yours with fleece over the winter?

    My cycad brought in April and potted into a larger pot now showing a flush!
    Really happy because it thought it would take at least a couple of years to settle

      Its definitely ahead of mine, mines dead, lol.

      I planted it out a few years ago, against my better judgement, it was at a time when certain people on certain websites were claiming all and sundry to be hardy.

      Dunno if you know, but do NOT move the pot during the flush :) I have a vertical line marked on my pot with "N" written on it, so if some well-meaning soul moves it I can rotate it back to how it was originally :)

        My pot Cycas is marked as were the Dicksonias when in pots.
        Distorted leaves don't look good.

          I didn't know that, what happens if you do move it then?

          The leaves grow all crooked. I think they grow soft, and then harden, so presumably they harden facing the way the sun then is, which is different to the angle they grew at.

          P.S> That's Cycas / Sago palms, I didn't know that Tree Ferns had a problem too)

            Thanks Kristen - I never knew that. Do you get a flush every year? I understood that there could be a gap year.

            "ish" :)

            The existing leaves will splay outwards to make room for a new flush, so that's the first sign.

            Supposedly the flush can be induced by very heavy watering - simulating monsoon I suppose. I just leave mine be to get on with it when it feels like it :)

              No sign of new fronds on my Cycas.

              But most of my palms are enjoying this hot weather.

              The washy is making a comeback after a few years in the doldrums, doubt if it will get as big as it was back in 2008, this year though, still its looking better than it has in a long time, along with the indestructible Chamy.
