Yes, especially as they're the species normally found on the buddleias and they're not to be seen anywhere.

I'm also very concerned,it seems to be widespread too:scratch: The Hawkers and Dragonflies seem few and far between in these parts too:dunno:

I've been thinking about our lack of butterflies this year. It could be that the various stages of their early life have been washed away during the bad winter and early spring we've had. Almost continuous rain and also flooding may well have destroyed them. Any thoughts on this please?

I still think we are expecting them too soon , as my (Autumn Joy sedum) has yet to turn pink and thats when I see lots , but saying that and I have mentioned before the 5 acre meadow where my bees are kept is packed out with butterflies I will take my camera and have a wander around over the weekend if it dont rain .

Still no butterflies here in the garden, the only ones I saw out this morning were Whites and Meadow Browns.:frown:
There are plenty of Dragonflies about.

With respect Spruce your meadow seems to be a 'one off ' for butterflies, many other members have reported otherwise including myself. I do agree with you though that we may see more during late summer and we shall have to wait and see but it is unusual for them not to be in evidence at the present time.

Good afternoon just out of curiosity, I have time travelled back to the June/July threads last year 2013 and to be honest there wasn't many Butterflies about then:smile: I shall endeavour to time travel back to old threads, just to see if there has been a steady decline:smile:

I've noticed Red Admirals and Peacocks re-appearing over the last few days. I rescued a Red Admiral trapped in my garage this morning and a Peacock obligingly alighted on a bramble bush next to me a short while ago (but refused to open its wings).
