Out in the greenhouse today, 'tickling' the flowers, and I noticed a small fruit forming! The plants, as I suspected, are a bit spindly - lack of light. Even though I planted them deep, the first truss is now around 2ft off of the ground. I'm thinking I'll get maybe 5 trusses before they hit the roof? That's ok though, given the late start, but I might have to do something drastic for next year. More on that later:)

          Cheers...Freddy

You're doing pretty well considering the late start Freddy :blue thumb:

Yeah, looks like I'll get a crop of some sort, which is nice:) It'll also be a good reference for future years. I always try to resist the urge to sow too early (lighting and heat issues), so it will be interesting to evaluate optimum sowing times.

              Cheers...Freddy

Well here they are "they are being like "needy" fledgelings this year!". They look like dead sheep's wool some afternoons but are all fed and watered for their photoshoot tonight:
Is it OK to remove foliage as there really is too much and it's blocking the fruits' access to precious sunlight and it's costing me a fortune in Tomorite and we don't eat the leaves !!

whoops, at the left hand end of the box is a "rogue" - doesn't look like a Maskotka to me...:heehee:
                any ideas

very exciting after all this time....:phew:

They are certainly looking healthy Jenny! You can remove some leaves, this is usually done from below the lower fruit trusses but I think that may well be a problem for you.

                      Well,
I have San Marzano that's growing - now about 3.5ft tall in a big pot on the patio...
whoops...:lunapic 130165696578242 5:. Seriously, are there any small "plums" in the bush growing mode?

Hiya Jenny. They look fab:thumbsup: Regarding removing foliage, by all means strip some away, but if it were me, I'd be looking to just give them a 'trim', as they look rather good as they are, to my eyes. Not sure if sunlight will help them to ripen more than warmth? Pretty sure temperature is the key factor.

thank you so much Freddy. They are spoilt rotten - but I did get a " buy 1 Tomorite and get another half price". Are there any mini plum tomatoes or are these destined for the roof please?

There are some small Plum (bush varieties) but looking at the size of the stalk it looks like it's going to be a big one..
