From The Smelly Book (used to enjoy reading that with my daughter when she was small and one of those that we've saved)

      If i've got this right

Farmers have to spread it onto ground which any crop is not going to human food chain ie spread on ground which wheat is not going for milling bread/biscuit it can go on field for feed wheat and not grass if the cows are going to graze it but it can go onto ground for silage/hay and also it apply to the waste washing from food factroys and must not run off into ditches or wash out through land drains into ditches
Got your reading head on @Jenny namaste

Bit late in the year to be spraying on something to be harvested this year, so perhaps sprayed on fields that have already been harvested (early this year) prior to cultivating and re-seeding? That really mucks up (literally) gleaning corn these days.

The chap who used to empty the Septic tanks round here, used to inject the material into the soil on his farm at about 2 feet below the top (or so he claimed when we asked).
Try living where there are outdoor reared pigs upwind and a couple of thousand tons of gently decomposing chicken bedding downwind. The smells swap when the wind changes. And just to add to the mix, yesterday, the farmer was spraying the contents of his Slurry tank on to the field opposite.
Many years ago we could buy sterile Sewage stuff. Exceptionally good stuff for the garden too!
