any chance of getting a close up of the berries ? as the colour is amazing

 

There's nothing on mine to prune, it's a mass of tight branches and is pretty much ball shaped. Hang on, I'll go and take a picture.......

Dianella tasmanica berries

The berries are almost iridescent a bit like a large blue version of Callicarpa giraldii

its bigger than I expected , only a suggestion but if possible remove a circle of grass add a good manure mulch and feed with rose feed in the spring should be the result.

The asters are very nice

Yes you're right Spruce about removing the turf, that's down to laziness on my part but I have been sprinkling some BFB around it to water in. It may look bigger in the picture but it is only just 3ft in height.

Thanks, yes I'm pleased with the Asters, it's the first time I've had them in the garden and I grew them from seed this year.

 

No idea Jenny, sorry. Anyone out there that can help please?

 

@Sheal - I personally wouldn't grow the Hibiscus in such an exposed spot. It looks mature enough to bloom, but maybe the growth is stunted because it's knocked back hard in the winter?

 

@longk the growth is stunted because it was in a pot for approx. eight years. We don't get harsh winters here but there is no such thing as an unexposed spot in my gardens, I'm just 250 yards from the Irish Sea and the village I live in is known to be the windiest area on the island. It doesn't stand a chance really!

 

When does it start to leaf up again Sheal?

Now that's a good question! I've searched through my garden pics and it's not to be seen any where, I was hoping to get a date. All I can say is - it's the last plant in the garden to leaf up, sorry Longk, I'll take note of it next year. I do know that Spruce says his is late to leaf as well.

 

Sues are too, probably late April? I'll take a picture this week as they should be in full bloom in the next few days.
