Wasps started fighting me for the blackberries in my tub this morning, another crime they are guilty of (and why with all the thousands on the bushes do they want my blackberries?).

They also build their nests in the middle of my crops and attack me if I try and harvest them, or they build them in my sheds and go for me when I open the door.

@Scrungee ...I wonder if those Bee smokers would work to calm wasps to make it easier /safer to get to your Blackberries:dunno:...might annoy them even more though, doesn't take much to wind a wasp up:paladin:

They have some chemical release method of alerting their mates that somebody is dissing them and suddenly the whole flippin nest is there to have a go at you.

I light a bonfire on their nest, that calms them down sorts them out/calms me down.

Last night I did the dusting of the nest and the running like hell bit :runforhills:. When it's light I'll put my running shoes on and go and check up on them :hate-shocked:

              Indeed ...

August Bank Holiday, when we like to have our Big BBQ Party (no you are NOT all invited - sorry!!) is when the wasps are getting drunk, and aggressive

I had just a quick look yesterday to see whether the nest was still active but didn't hang around long enough to be sure. The hole had got a small leaf caught partway across it when I puffed the powder onto it. It was almost dark when I did it and puffed the powder before noticing it. So it held some of the powder on it which they would have to brush past to get in and out.

Now that it has rained I'll have a closer look to see what's happened - still wearing my running shoes!

Perhaps you could have a nudge around with a long cane Shiney and then run if there's life.

Bon courage, shiney! I took out three big nests today in the polytunnel:paladin: The little so-and-sos have been the bane of my life here every summer as there is everything they need to thrive. Lots of old wood, water, heat and orchards.
A tip for anyone plagued by them, or at risk of anaphylactic shock from their stings, spraying their favourite nesting areas with 20% dilution of cypermethrine early in Spring will give months of yellow-peril-free bliss:yes:

I usually just put a rubble sack or a black bag over the nest and twist it at the end. Tie it off and cut it open up the hayfields.
Would love the police searching my vehicle while laden with wasps.:D
I dont like destroying them much, but have been known to fight them bare handed when they dlgo near my LO.

It's not easy to bag them up when the nest is underground!

I had a quick look yesterday and there appears to be little movement now. Another quick dusting should finish the job. :blue thumb:

Don't want to burn the roots of the plum tree that the nest is in.
