Well not quite a bucket but a large plastic pot.

Bought this collection of aquatic plants in Homebase on impulse and then a large plastic pot.

The idea is you plonk the plant basket in a smallish container, fill with water and hey presto - instant water feature - but was looking to do something on a slightly larger scale.

Was thinking about how to create some kind of "shelving" to hold these marginal plants when I had an idea...

Galvanised wire mesh on a roll:

Created a cylinder of mesh which exactly fits the bottom of the pot, securing the ends with cable-ties:

Added some pebbles to the bottom and then started filling the space outside the wire mesh with pebbles:

Cut the sides out of some water plant baskets, strung them together with cable-ties and then fastened them to the top of the wire mesh cylinder (again with cable ties) to create an upper cylinder of plant basket mesh.

This creates a planting ring around the top of the pot which can be filled with soil.

Separated out the plants from the Homebase basket and placed them - added another plant and some oxygenating pondweed from Seapets.

Then filled the ring in with compost and added a layer of gravel and pebbles right up to the edge of the inner mesh.

This isn't the mini-pond's final position but the light was good so decided to fill her up and take a few pics. May add some extra plants - I'll see how it goes.

Very nice, I fancy doing something in my garden, as it is gravel for about 12" deep was considering a scrape, lined with pond liner, but that looks better and it`s mobile, as I am forever dragging my pots about.

It could be sunk in the ground or on a patio, either way it would look good.:blue thumb:

thanks kindredspirit, Yvonne and Loofah for your kind comments.

Yvonne, funnily enough was looking at your blog earlier today - very, very impressive stuff - puts me to shame - nice to think there may be a little idea of mine in there - do put a pic up if you get round to doing it
