Tee hee. I ate a very tasty Black Russian at the weekend, if that's any help. There's a bunch more of them round the back of the house.

I 'stopped' my outdoor ones today, at 3 trusses. The way I figure it, any subsequent flowers won't have time to form/ripen before the cold weather (<---sorry about that:frown:) sets in.

            Thanks Freddy,
me - ever the optimist , I'm going for 4 + trusses. I'm clipping off anything that grows down on the tumbling toms now and they've had a "short back and sides" today. Their fruits are resting on a tall glazed pot which is out of service and they've been pushed back against the wall. Thus, I am reasonably confident they won't "Tumble"...:fingers crossed: in the wake of Bertha.
I love these Indigo Rose though, growing on strong, more trusses and they turn black very quickly. Might make a nice piccie quite soon

I'm not bothering to stop mine, I find they do it themselves outside.

Just wondering if anyone might have an idea what variety this is, its certainly earlier than my plum ones, and seems a slightly strange colour, but the shape might give something away.

pete; Could be "New Girl" - it has that funny shape at the bottom and mine are that colour this year, also it is a lot earlier than most.

Thanks John, I've looked for images of new girl and as usual they are a bit mixed.
I see what you are saying about the shape at the bottom, but mine tend to look like the one above in Spruces picture, ie. beefstake type, I'm also getting the first fruit on each truss being very large but grossly misshapen, a bit like Marmande.

Probably not "New Girl" then as mine are always even sized.

I've had a few Malinowy Henryka toms through now and despite the excitement of trying a new variety I have to say I'm a bit let down!

Slightly thicker skins than I was expecting, although not terrible, but it was a bit on the dry side as a salad tom. Flavour wise it was nothing special.

Anyone know what variety this is? Single fruit, quite large (teaspoon next to it to give an idea of size) and too uniform in shape to be a marmande?

I grew Black Russian last year after reading all the hype about it and while it cropped okay the fruits were thick skinned and were really bland in taste rather than that lovely tommy taste that we look forward to.:dunno::gaah::snork:

Could be a type of Schist, not a Granite. Not sure about the tomato though.

FC.....is it possible to narrow it down? What toms of that colour, shape and size did you grow this year? Now you're going to tell me hundreds aren't you?
