Actually I was expecting it to be worse than it was :) The "takeaways" were:

That size of pot, with a relatively skinny tree trunk (albeit 4M+ tall) has a lot of weight in the rootball, so awkward to get "airborne" [horizontal] to allow the pot to be taken off

Critical that the roots have developed. I doubt that would have happened enough by June, and the one I dug up and potted last July, which had a decent rootball at the time, rather than bare rooted, was absolutely fine in that respect and had a rock solid rootball - as you might expect.

The rest of my pleach trees have been for 5 years are not much taller than the new plants, so it seems that Ashridge Trees gave me much bigger ones this time around. Either they hadn't sold many when I bought them last Spring, and had older ones "In stock", or they had only just started doing "Flat headed Limes" for Pleach-training 5 years ago ... I don't suppose many people plant them side by side 5 years apart! and thus don't notice ... but I would have liked taller trees first time around please!!

Ashridge Trees "Flat Head Limes" which are pleaching-ready :)
