pots & pans still need sorting :snork:

Cut all the lawns , removed more leaves from the tomatoes and picked some as well , courgettes have decided to put on more growth and have restarted fruiting at last , and a quick tidy up , popped over to see the bees quick 10 mins all look happy .
Warmed up a tad , but thick black clouds wont be long before it rains .

I've emptied my compost bin ready to fill it up again, the contents are now on the rose bed. Watered the toms and outdoor pots and trough. Over the next few days I'll be pulling out most of the annuals as they have finished. I don't like putting the garden to 'bed' it's a sure sign winter's on the way!

It all seems to have come on in such a rush. I just cannot accept it's all over already. We've only had one decent month down here = July. That's NOT ENOUGH!!

Yesterday and today we cut back more of our massive hedge. I trimmed the topiary and planted my 2 climbing roses plus redoing the new bed at the back of our garden which was new this year and didn't turn out like I hoped. This involved getting rid of a fair few weeds and putting in some Dalmatian cream foxgloves and a few pansies and violas grown from seed. I'm hoping for a purple, blue and white theme in the mid summer there next year. I also potted on over 100 young pansies and perennials. My T&M papaver and verbena are mush but I knew they would die as soon as I opened the box. Don't want to complain cause I've no room or time for another replacement set! Going to give my dad some geums, coreopsis and achillea cassis as I don't have room for them all.
Today we finished and organised the shed including adding a huge workbench! So all of my gardening stuff is in there now, really happy with it.
To finish I moved a couple of annuals which were getting swamped by my surprise rudbekia and the other half cleared the garage roof of moss! I also did then necessary deadheading and watering. I'm so chuffed with my petunias (from a cheap 'seed disc') but baffled as to why my echinea tubers have done so poorly - just a few shrivelled leaves. Maybe I'll try them from seed instead.

A bit damp this morning, so did a bit of autumn sowing and sorting out in the greenhouse.

Sowed some winter salad leaves (corn salad and tatsoi), spring cabbage 'April' and some aquilegias and lupins from saved seed.

Earlier this week Mr Kandy started pruning the beech hedge that separates our front garden from next doors (we also have a picket fence)as he likes to do it in August before the winter sets in.As I was supervising and making sure he got the line straight I suggested he brings the hedge down to a more sensible height as it was getting a bit too tall at eight foot and was starting to block the light from our front garden so with him sawing the trunks and me collecting the clippings we got the task done over a couple of evenings and took two car loads to the local tip.

Saturday over at the Lottie I helped Mr Kandy put back up the Coxs Orange Pippin tree that Bertha decided to topple the other week so we have got off most of the fruit and Mr Kandy has pruned a lot of the branches and put guy ropes round the trunk to hold the tree up so he has been able to take away the thick pieces of wood he used to prop the tree up with.It has got two chances as to whether it wants to live or die but would hate to lose it as it is over thirty years old and is my favourite tree.

Sunday, over at the Lottie while Mr Kandy weeded the carrots I emptied one full one ton bag and three quarters of a second one and all the compost is now spread on to one of the plots ready for either digging or rotavating in ready for next year:biggrin:

If our allotments are ever sold off for building then someone is going to have some good land for their gardens, although I expect the good stuff will be scraped off and clay stuff left on the top for the new residents:heehee:

Indeed, blinking useless guests. All they managed to do was walk round and admire the garden - would have been much more useful if they had weeded and dead-headed ...

... although they do tend to like bravado stuff. Given half a chance they would have the chainsaw out and chop something down. I've never let them do that, they'd be a danger to themselves, and they seem to get the same satisfaction wielding a blunt axe at a skinny tree trunk for several hours!

But they did bring-down a couple of dead branches that were higher in the trees than I wanted to venture, or could reach, up, so that was handy :)
