I've friends like that too Kristen:biggrin:....I force them to walk around the garden and be interested:heehee:
They do like the garden but not what's involved in maintaining it,Just to get my own back we pass by the barrel of comfrey tea and I purposely can't resist giving it a stir:biggrin:....their faces are a picture:biggrin:

Dead headed everything that needed it, pulled out some Cleome that were finished then attacked the crocosmia. Cut off all leaves and tomorrow will dig up as many bulbs as I possibly can. Never manage to get all of them up, some always escape. But really want to clear them from where they are just now as they are just too messy and I have other plans for that border

I don't have any qualms about digging up any, which I miss, when they are in growth. They might miss a year's flowering for being disturbed, but in the long term they join the crowd :)

            Good morning all:smile:
To day I have to finish my one time a year job,I have asked my neighbours courteously and politely and with my usual panache and charm,to try and help me by keeping their side cut just a little, but my friendly request has fallen on deaf ears,;) I really wouldn't mind but its putting 4 of my climbing Roses in the shade:heehee: This is not a criticism of my neighbours in anyway  ,as they sometimes take a cursory look on GC. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Woo, it looks as though the post may need replacing and not the fence!

Kristen, guests are so thoughtless! :dunno: Of course they should do weeding as they walk around the garden. Mrs Shiney can't be stopped from doing that :heehee:, even when we go to NT or other big gardens.

We had a pruning day yesterday. Apart from cutting back loads of shrubs and digging up crocosmia we reduced a lot of trees. It was a 20ft day! All trees pruned had 20ft taken off them. We did three lilacs,

one Corylus contorta (photo taken during the process)
              P1210364.JPG

              and one plum tree.
              P1210402.JPG

This tree was in full fruit as it's a black plum that doesn't normally ripen until Sept/Oct. We collected 45lb of plums from the cut branches and bagged up five carrier bags of fallen/bruised plums for someone who makes wine. The plums are far enough into ripening for them to continue to do so. :blue thumb: I always use Arbex on plum trees when doing heavy pruning.

Got all the crocosmia dug up. Hundreds upon hundreds of bulbs and it was just a 10m x 1m bed. Some will be replanted elsewhere, a lot will just have to be binned, no room for them. Divided and replanted/relocated some callas that were in the same bed and chopped down 3 huge shrubs that were taking over. Kernackered now.

                      1) Collected loads more Salvia patens light/dark blue seeds. Got about 60 of each and there's loads more to follow.
                      2) These came yesterday - too windy to work with them outdoors so just let them breathe
                      P1050441.JPG
and today they got planted up - plenty of time to settle and harden up before Winter
