you are getting good at this ...

A common species throughout Britain, this moth can often be found in numbers around dusk, flying over patches of the foodplant, nettle

It is on the wing from June to August, and again later in the autumn,

Found on waste ground, gardens, woodland and other places where nettle occurs.

I've not seen a lot of Butterflies over the year but suddenly there are a lot of Small Borders, Red Admirals, Peacocks, Spotted Woods, Fritillarys, Gate Keepers and Whites flitting around.:dunno::snork:

I saw a Red Admiral today. I was beginning to think everything but Cabbage Whites had deserted! My Sedums are starting to colour up so hopefully I'll see some more. :)

The Spotted Wood did look a bit "worn" but it was busy flitting around the garden all day so it wasn't too bothered. I've seen more Butterflies this month than any other month this year with only one or two Peacocks, but more Fritillaries, White Cabbage, a couple of Gate Keepers, and more than a few Red Admirals. But the one that I always look for is not a Butterfly but a Moth.....the Cinnabar Moth which I don't see every year but I do like. I've only seen one this year in the garden and that was only for a fleeting moment as I had guests looking around the garden so I couldn't give chase to it!!:coffee::snork:

The larvae, with their yellow and black hoops, generally feed on ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) and other related plants.

The flight period is May through July so may be to late Armandii this year , I have seen by me and I know the field up by the top half of the river is covered in ragwort

Well, there's still plenty of Ragwort around on the Hedgerows and paths and it's been a "funny 'ole year" season wise with what seemed like an early start and now what seems to be an early Autumn. So I haven't given up on seeing another one yet!!:dunno::snork:
