If you're concerned about the possible effects your slug pellets are having on other animals, you could try these. I've been using them for a few years now and they seem to be quite effective, with the bonus of not posing any risk to birds or animals which eat the slugs and snails.

Most garden centres/shops seem to be stocking them now.

Oh come on, just fish it out and bury it.
I was cleaning out my waterfall yesterday, put my hand in a decayed frog, its not nice but its life, or possibly death.

I dont like dead animals any more than the next person, but it happens.

I had a dustbin full of maggots a while back, I left the lid open, in full sun for a couple of days, it killed the lot.

Yeah, squeamish, or what? Although it would have been a case of straining it out rather than fishing it out.
But inaction has triumphed, the skeleton is now lying on the bank, picked nice and clean and I didn't have to lift a finger (except my typing fingers, that is). I'll bin the skeleton once I've identified it, just binned the hedgehog.

With regards to rat problems,I was talking to the chap who has taken on the job of rats on the allotments. Anyone who has a problem has to let him know and he comes round and lays bait,I asked him what he used and said what ever the farm supplier will let him have as he has no certificate for handeling poison there are only certain ones he can use.One good tip he did give was that what ever poison you get put it in small plastic bags so that the rats can carry it away take it under ground and eat it,as rats are aware of what we put down and sometimes don't touch it this fools them and good bye rattie:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Seconded! I use these because I have the dog, a wee one, next doors cat, loads of birds and a cheeky wee squirrel that are in or visit the garden on a regular basis.

These pellets have been very effective for me, and no corpses.
