P1050490.JPG P1050490.JPG Sadly, blight is spreading from one plant to the next on my Patio tomatoes so - out they come. Hasn't as yet affected the window box tomatoes but my OH decided it was time to strip everything from the plants and let the toms take the food and hopefully ripen without infection.
I am somewhat disappointed in the toms' performance this year - not good. Only July had enough sun for them and then that cold spell was the last thing they wanted.
Time to make some Curried Tomato Chutney with Pancha Phoran to use in Autumn / Winter.

Oh that's a big shame Jenny.

Are the Ferlines affected by blight as well? Just that they are supposed to be resistant.

Do you make your own Panch? I think it's much nicer than the Chinese five spice. :blue thumb:

Yes I do Mr Shiney, got a jar of it in the store cupboard right now. I am going to add a wee pinch of Timur seed that we brought back from Nepal in January too,

I've not tried that :blue thumb:. It's similar to Sechuan pepper so may give it a go :ideaIPB:. I suppose if you add that then it won't be Panch but will be Chhoi :heehee:

Do you roast or fry your Panch or just use it neat?

Well, you are not alone @Jenny namaste - mine have all fallen over too. All in all, its been a poor tomato year (definitely going to make a lot of changes next year!), and I have all but given up on ripening much more now; we went through the plants today and ended up with:

            Yellow (Millefleur) - 2lb 13oz
            Assorted red - 7lb 7oz
            Green - 20lb

So, a good chutney year - but I think even I would be hard pushed to use all that chutney! Any ideas what to do other than chutney for the green ones?

Also, any suggestions what to do with the yellow baby ones?

You could try ripening them on a sunny window sill FC. One of my plants snapped under the weight so that's what I did with the green fruit, they're ripening nicely. :) Put a couple of red one's in with them, it seems to help the ripening process.

I use bananas as well as they too produce ethene (ethylene) that stimulates ripening.

I will ripen some - I've separated into three categories of ripe, will ripen and yer havin' a laugh if you think these will ripen :snork:

Just been and got the bits and bobs from Sainsburys - between chutney and jam, the till operator must be wondering what on earth we are going to do (6 big jars of Sarsons Vinegar, about 30kg of sugar and loads of spices); the house is going to go from smelling of fresh paint to chutney by tomorrow

Sad to hear that you've all had a bad year. I'm the opposite this year I've had a cracker.
Most of my sungolds and tigerella are mostly picked and the others are ripening nicely in the GH.
