What I was really after were not things "new to you" so much as "new to the market" to see if anything had actually delivered on its promise, such that it would be worth a go next year for us Late Adopters

I dont even think its a matter of heat regarding cucamelon, I just think its one of those minority fruits.
Usually minority fruits are just that, and often when you grow them you can see why.

I've got quite a lot of fruit on mine, but it still tastes awful.

 

I usually grow a few Physalis, I like the taste, just not the pips, a bit like passion fruit in that respect.
Tried the first fruit to ripen on the naranjilla, and again nice flavour, but tough skin.

 

I'll try cucamelon again next year, but grown on a trellis for easy harvesting. The 'variegated' cannas also promoted by M Wong, though, well what a waste of time! Not one variegated leaf plant amongst the dozen plants produced.

My tomtatos have produced quite a crop even though I planted them outside (in containers) and a bit too crowded. Not checked the potatoes yet. They were only £1 each including the containers though, from Gardeners World live. I didn't realise they were £15 usually when I bought them! Good fun, but I am going to try tomatoes from seed next year.

 

Rosella cherry tomatoes. A new introduction in the seed catalogues this year. Thought I'd try them and I'll definitely be growing them again next year.

Vigorous and prolific, a good flavour, firm texture and does well under glass or outdoors.

 

Tomato 'Indigo Rose' has been grown by a few members this year but seems to have had a mixed response on ripening and flavour. I was considering it for next year but don't think I'll bother.

 

Interesting to hear @Trunky. Anyone else grown them?

The seed-sellers descriptions certainly sound enticing (although I take marketing descriptions with a huge pinch of salt!)

Just Seeds (on eBay) sells it too [at half the price of those two]. I recognise the name, but not bought from them befoer; they sell one heck of a lot of tomato varieties though
