Thanks everyone. Your words of encouragement throughout this thread have really helped me through some setbacks and I wouldn't be exhibiting without all of your support and feedback.

I'm so apprehensive about it almost like I'm going for a job interview or something.

I sold three carvings and one painting in an hour and then for the rest of the day I didn't sell anything else. Still made nearly £50 though. .

There's still another 6 days to go. Some people have said they will be back too and am carving while I'm there so people can see me working and see what else I do.

 

That's good news JJ. Word of mouth will soon get round!

Yes and no. A lot of people who did have a look around where surprised at how diverse I am and that I've also been self taught in all of it. It was very lonely though as there was no one really to talk to with me. A number of people came over and wanted to know what I was doing etc and it was good to get their feedback too.

I've also starting to learn what age range of customers are more likely to buy my work. A lot of families came in during the day and they would look, go wow and then turn round and leave. While it seems middle age to retired people and couples without children with them were the ones who bought my work or seem more interested / had the money for them etc.

There also seems to be a lot of interest in a snail I carved in about an hour (can be seen at the back of the case). I thought snails were quite unpopular but it does seem to be what a few people looking have latched onto. Must make some more.

I've been handing out my business cards to the people who bought my work, as I'm assuming that these people will show others and ask where they could get their own etc. The shop I was selling them at says that they will take them back after the exhibition has ended and I hope this will increase footfall for her too. This also contains my email address (don't like giving my phone number out to strangers) so I'm hoping people will email me too if they are really interested.

Thanks Jenny. There are still 6 days to go and unfortunately won't be able to man the exhibition tomorrow. Everything I make was originally going into the till at the visitor centre, they would then take a 20% cut, but it was seen that as I have volunteered there for over 2 years I would just get the money in hand when I was there. But anything that is sold while I wasn't there would still go through the till and 20% would be taken off.
