Bagged a couple more 'county tops' while on holiday in the west country recently, as part of my long running quest to visit the highest point of every English county.

The view from the top of Dunkery Hill on Exmoor, highest point in Somerset.

Yours truly (and friend) at the summit of High Willhays on Dartmoor, highest point in Devon and the whole of southern England. Quite a stomp to get there, but worth it for the views.
Rather strangely, at over 2,000 feet above sea level, with nothing but rocks and some fairly sparse patches of grass around, we were pestered by several bees. :th scifD36: :dunno:

That makes it 25 counties 'bagged' now, just 12 more on my list to visit. :runforhills:

Not many more to go! :blue thumb:

Just a thought @Trunky....are you including the Isle of Man? I know it's considered a country not a county but it's owned by the Crown. :)

Snaefell Mountain in Autumn, the islands highest point.

Well I have been to the top of Dunkery Hill/Beacon , so I have bagged 1 . There used to be 40 English counties , I presume with all the boundary changes this is now 37 ?

@Sheal Snaefell mountain isn't on my list, although it looks quite impressive in your photo with the top partly hidden by cloud. One for the future maybe.

@HarryS There are various lists out there, depending on whether you want to include the new counties, old counties which no longer exist and so on.

I tried to keep it simple and decided to do all the traditional English counties which still exist in one form or another. I think 37 is enough to be going on with, I've been working my way through that list for about 15 years now and I've done around two thirds of them. :phew:

Have been into a Martial arts since the age of 11.. black belt in three separate disciplines but age means I train at a low level now. Currently into playing guitar but it's on the back burner while I complete the renovation of our bungalow.

Oh and gardening in between
