A windy walk around Durlston CP and above the cliffs this Common Whitethroat was having a bad feather day!

Below the cliff, briefly, was a Grey Seal, first one I've seen there.

Later at Sandford Heath I found a Wasp Spider and I haven't seen one of those for two years. Their webs are very low down and easily missed.

        Beautiful abdomen markings.

Whinchat, this morning, flitting around with 6 Stonechats, in a couple of weeks time the Stonechats will still be here and all year, the Whinchat will be half way to Africa.

I haven't been very mobile for the past 10 days following my stupid little fall, but yesterday I did manage to, with the aid of a walking stick, slowly and wobbling dangerously, get into the back garden. Positioned myself in front of some bee-loving plants and I took some pictures of those who were willing to pose for me since I was in no condition to chase after anything that moves.

                        Lots of hoverflies

Long Hoverfly, tiny little fly but its wings are most iridescent

This one is new to me. It is a long snout hoverfly, I prefer to call it Pinocchio.
Latin name for this one is Rhingia campestris
                        IMG_4540.jpg

This one, Rhingia rostrata, is slightly different from the one above, mainly it hasn't got the black line along its abdomen and overall is a little bit brighter.
                        Rhingia rostrata (6).jpg
Gave its drinking tube a good cleaning after drinking the nectar

A drone fly, covered in pollen
Tapered Drone Fly - Eristalis pertinax (1).jpg

Here it's working hard to get rid of the pollen. It was interesting to watch it brushing its body with the hind legs then rubbing the legs together, gradually little lumps of pollen drop off.
