Mini greenhouses?

I got my mini-greenhouse for 1p from Wilko



It broke my heart having to pay 20p for a spare cover.

 

Jack , I and quite a few others here use this windowsill heated propagator . You will struggle outside for light and heat .Takes very little room up and the prop cells are a very handy size . I also made a mini light box 2 years ago which packs down to a double seed tray after use -I'll put some details on later.

To be honest Kristen they are hopeless, mine didn't manage to get through a second season. Weighed down with rocks on the bottom part of the frame the first year.....the wind just distorted the rest. The zip broke in the second year so it got binned!

 

Jack , photos below of a mini lightbox I made 2 years ago . I used a double size seed tray and click plumbing tube and connectors to make the frame . Two photographers light holders and daylight bulbs 30w each , and covered it in diamond mylar. Got most off the stuff from ebay cost about £35. It packs down to nothing in May !

 

Thanks everyone - that all makes a lot of sense and I think this might actually be right, as exciting as I find the idea of having a mini greenhouse. My garden is tiny so I'm reluctant to put anything else in it, but that also means I don't need lots and lots of plants. So a good batch of seedlings from that multi sectioned heated propagator would produce enough plants. And a lamp would help solve my biggest problem with the lack of light.

Hi Jack
A few on GC have the T5 systems for their grow cabinets . They will light a very large area for growing through the winter months.
I only needed ,and had room for , a small light box about the size off 2 seed trays . You can get quite a lot off plants in that area.
The lights and lamp holders I used in my light box were from the mighty Ebay . A photographers lamp holder which is easy to mount and the screw in daylight bulbs - cost about £12. I use a simple dial timer to turn on the lights for about 15 hours a day. Important to get daylight bulbs they are rated at around 6500k on ths colour scale. I rotate my seedlings between the light box and my "allowed" windowsills as decreed by Mrs H You soon run out of space so be a little cautious with your planning
