This was written about the EU but seems somewhat appropriate.

Goodbye to my England, So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's been dropped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected, staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away over the sea
We're the English from England, let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud !

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
      Let the world know -
WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

Only six constituencies to go and the 'No' vote is still way ahead, but there are some large areas to come in.

It appears as though it will be a victory for logic over emotion. There's nothing wrong with emotion but it shouldn't be the deciding factor in such an important matter.

I think this will result in a much bigger problem than a division between England and Scotland. It's a split between the people of Scotland and I can't see how it can be resolved.

Been up all night waiting to see the results. Thank god it's a NO with a reasonable % for a NO. Would have liked a bigger % but at least it will be larger than the latest opinion polls suggested. Nearly died when I heard the result from Dundee. Not surprised it is "affectionately" known as Scumdee! Am sipping a large dram in celebration and to hell with it being 5.45 am! Just hoping things will calm down now and we can try and get back to our reasonably quiet lives.

If it was simply voting for MP's it would all be over (instead of almost over) as there have only been 3 constituencies that have voted Yes and 21 No.

As usual, the opinion polls seem to have been way out!

Right, I'm off back to the TV and my comfy armchair, with a nice cuppa, to listen to the TV fighting with the thunder and lightning. The first rain in two weeks. :blue thumb:

Critical IMHO. I would have preferred 60:40, but 55:45 is hopefully enough that the Yes militants will not take matters into their own hands.

I think 55:45 means we can drag Alex Salmond off to the Tower of London in chains ! Now that would get a YES vote

Thank goodness the right decision was made in the end. Hopefully now we can get back to sorting out the problems and the future of Britain as a whole.

In the shorter term, we of course need to be mindful of the feelings of those in the Yes camp who will not only feel aggrieved, but also deep personal disappointment - not least of course Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon. Indeed, I would even like to be one of the first to extend a friendly handshake to then both in their hour of disappointment, and give them this message in broad Scots language to mull over..........

                      Well, that's that then.

Time for England to vote to see if we want to keep Scotland :stirpot:
