Strimmer Brush cutter petrol or battery

Hi All,

I was thinking of getting a strimmer brush cutter as where I keep the beehives grass is getting very long and bracken moving in slowly and brambles , I have used shears but takes for ever .

Any suggestions of which ones are best, they wont be used constantly but would be useful

I've always had petrol strimmers as i have a lot to do, the battery ones don't seem to be man enough for me and you will have to have two batterys but they may be better for the bees as they don't make as much noise as the petrol ones

 

Hire one? particularly if you haven't tried one before, or are not sure how the Bees will react, and would like to "try before buy" so to speak.

 

That sounds a great idea I only need to use twice a year I will see what available locally

I found petrol ones are usually heavy, noisy and more powerful. If you have loads of grass to strimm often, then it is maybe better choice?

Battery ones are light, quieter and does good job too, but battery must be good (heavy duty ones such as 3 Ah ones) to be useful. My old strimmer battery lasted only a year and it was light duty one (1.4 Ah), and it used to be able to cut for about 30 - 40 min. it was getting weaker and weaker, and finally died. I bought a new heavy duty battery(3 Ah) for £30 from eBay, and it is powerful, quiet and cuts for 2 hours per a charge - very useful.
