They look scrummy. Bet you could sell them for a tidy sum at a farmers market. What's the big black one at the back?

That's Black Krim, it's got a savoury salty flavour, it's lovely fried on toast for brekkie :)

Ah, right. I should have known. I bought one from a farmers market and saved the seed to grow next year. How acidic are yours?

Black Krim it isn't acidic at all, not the best of yields but one fruit makes two brekkies, it's as good as bacon. Have you seen the taste test thread?

Thanks JKW. I've had two 'black krims' from different markets. I suspect the second one wasn't. (Still cost me nearly £2 tho!)

I'm going to the Fete de la Tomate at Chateur Labordaisiere in the Loire Valley (must check spelling!) this weekend. Hopefully will be coming away with some goodies. They have the French national tomato collections (650 varieties), tomato tasting, tomato restaurant and Remy the Rat from the Disney film ratatouille!!!

£2! Yikes! This may be too late but you can easily save the seed from Black Krim (and all other non-F1 tomatoes). Just scoop a few out as you're eating them and put them on kitchen roll, let them dry naturally away from the sun for a few days. Come sowing time next spring you don't have to separate the seeds from the kitchen roll, just put a piece of the kitchen roll with a few seeds attached into seed compost and cover as normal.

Sounds very interesting, I'd appreciate you letting us know what it was like on your return :blue thumb:

Yes, JWK, that's what I've been doing. Seems like I picked the right one to save seed from!

Edit: just packed for France. Hopefully will have tales of tall tomatoes for you Monday night.

We have been away for a week and have picked another washing-up bowl full, will have to start freezing/processing them now. The plants are still growing strong, just a couple I had to remove due to grey mould (botrytis). Also got a lot ripened on my outdoor Manx Marvels, been cooking them as they are still very bland.

                            Hey! That's my home town!

My toms are on the out. They didn't give as much as I'd hoped so I cut the losses and removed all foliage; just waiting on the last bowlful or so left to ripen before clearing and cleaning the greenhouse
