    You mean, like this?

Mrs Shiney and a tarantula when we were in the Amazon. I'd need to be paid a lot of money to hold it! :hate-shocked: :heehee:

Nice specimen Shiney, it looks similar to the ones I used to keep, like Scorpions, the bigger they are the less venomous they are. It's the small ones to leave alone.
      Mrs Shiney obviously likes Spiders.

      Hi strongy,

Yes, that one was picked off a tree as it was watching us wandering through the rain forest. The guide picked it up and it didn't seem the least bit bothered.

Mrs Shiney is happy to pick up anything. She's particularly good with wild birds and we have loads of pictures of her with them. She's even picked up swans down at Abbotsbury and cuddled them. They seemed quite happy for her to do so.

Probably on their way down to the coast where they might stay for a week or two, they don't really need to fuel up much as they return to Sub Sahara in short hops not in one like some small Warblers which somehow do it in one flight, they will probably stop on the other side on the channel and take their time.

when I was on a cruise going to the med from Southampton it was scary/amazing watching the small birds flying across the sea knowing which way to go and it took the ship another 10 hours to get to port

Apart from night time star navigation, they seem to have an inbuilt compass or something which enables first time migrators to find their way, whatever they have, we don't fully understand it.

Raven, common birds here now but I never see them perched anywhere, just in flight and this shows the distinct wedge/diamond shaped tail. Their loud 'honk' can be heard half a mile away.

While watering our neighbour's garden I came across an Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar dining on his Fuchsias.
