Visited my regular market stall holder today and he showed me this shrub that was unlabeled and he didn't know what it was, he said I could have one for a couple of quid to try it, so I did :)

The flowers are yellow and hibiscus like but only small at 3/4 to 1 inch across, the leaves are also small.

    Any ideas folks :)

      Hi Bilbo,
The leaves put me in mind of a fremontodendron, but the only one I know of has much darker flowers. Could be worth pursuing that line of thought, though?

Thanks noisette, I don't think its that as they have bristly stems and larger flowers I think :)

I know....I can only find reference to 'Californian Glory', but I wondered if there has been a recent introduction over there? The leaves and flowers are sooo close.....will keep hunting:)

Thanks SS, Googling it, looks like its a fairly undemanding shrub with a long flowering period and reasonably hardy :)
