Huh?? Here in France, there've been rumours for the last couple of years about re-introducing the self-same tax discs:gaah: At the moment, you only pay once, when you register the vehicle, but hey, the government are getting to grips with the idea of screwing everybody every year:cry3:Surprised it took them this long, really.......
@Loofah, trust me, they're pretty efficient compared to your average fonctionnaire:heehee:

I knew this was going to happen but thought the set up was going to be the same as the Americans/Canadians, where the details are incorporated into the registration plates of the car.

I've not heard anything here on the island, so I presume we will carry on with the discs.....at least for the time being. Our vehicles are registered here, not with the DVLA.

I predict a massive increase in tax disc evasion, bring it in line with the huge % of uninsured drivers (and probably leading to a further increase in those), together with an increase in numberplate theft to use them on other vehicles and avoid ANPR camera detection as there will no longer be an easy way to detect false plates being used (another can of worms), leading to a total failure of the new scheme and forcing re-introduction of a revised system of having to display something in your windscreen that's linked to your vehicle registration and verifies that you have insurance and an MOT.

I don't think this change has been properly thought through.

With the new system Direct Debit is now an option. For my vehicle, opting for 6 months DD will give a saving of £4.50 or £9 p.a. for 2 DD payments, but there's no saving whatsoever if opting for 12 months DD single annual payment.

                  DVLA.png

I reckon that the pro-rata saving for changing to 12 months DD should have been £8.18. So why are those who only get 6 months VED at a time being offered a saving for DD?

No, I'm afraid not........either I forget or can't be bothered. But it does show that in this day and age the Government is really confident that they can track you via cameras where ever you go on the road.:hate-shocked:

I renewed last month and was sent a colour picture of a tax disc at the bottom of the letter with a dotted outline and a picture of a pair of scissors so I could cut it out and put it in my windscreen for a month. On the basis that they know anyway whether you've renewed and I stopped being given that sort of activity when I left the infant school I didn't bother so I've been disc-less for a month already.
