    Well....................

For gritty British urban realism go with Nil By Mouth (not a feel good movie though).
For great British character films look no further than Last Orders.
For great revenge movies I'll offer two from the US - The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and The Unforgiven.

      1984....................

This was Richard Burtons last film and it's hard to believe that he died 30 years ago:yikes:

Won't be on this thread for a little while as I have started watching 'The Sopranos' box set again, great stuff, loved James Gandolfini.

It's ruddy depressing that film, I think the book is much more intelligent.

It is certainly not a feel good date movie!
Different medium though. To me it was a visual treat. A book will always be more cerebral as it's not laid on a plate for you. The exception for me are the George Smiley tales - I just couldn't get on with Le Carres writing.

Right up there with the very best. It (much like the Sopranos) is much more about the characters than the stories in the episodes.

This was on last Christmas and I say down to watch it, my wife said she would also like to watch it, which I thought strange. About 5 minutes in she told me she didn't want watch as she thought it was programme about celebrities losing weight and not a war film:wallbanging:

I watched safe house starting Denzel Washington last night, I thought it was ok.

I enjoyed World War Z. Although a proper ending would have been nice.
