Guys if you had to write a wanted list of rare tropical plants what would it be?

Hi @longk a local nursery has Puya berteroana but they've sold out for this season, but I'm ordering some seeds from America this week, will send you some if you like

 

Ian don`t wayste your time with the seeds , it will take years and years , perhaps I already have Puya berteroana along with another 5 variety of puyas , but they are really slow to grow .

about the Strongylodon macrobotrys unfortunatly I don`t have a heated greenhouse yet so let`s be realistic

 

I just ordered from Germany seeds for the Black Bat Flower (Tacca chantrieri) but by mistake received the White Bat Flower (Tacca integrifolia). I immediately wrote and suggested he send me the correct seeds along with a self-addressed stamped enveloped and I would return the incorrect order. He sent the correct seeds and said the incorrect ones were a 'gift'. I don't know how I will fare with them. Anyone tried them?

I also got some white Pineberry strawberries (pineapple flavoured?) from him so wonder how they will develop?

 

I'm up for it. As Sal says they are slow to get going but once they do hey get a romp on. It's not a race!!

Victoria the tacca can take up to 9 months to germinate and 3 years to flowering , I`ll suggest to order some bare roots in spring (I`ll tell you where from if you need)

about the pine berry , usually poundland and wilkinson sell them in UK for £1 each , not really a rare plants

Sal's correct about seed germination, but I would also add that they are very erratic (the key is that the seed needs to be pretty fresh). Germinating the seed is half the battle - getting them through the first few months is a battle too. I lost both mine. Cheated in the end and bought a bargain bin plant after flowering
I have movement on my White Bat Flower seed - hopefully it will be germination.

when i say rare I mean plants that we don`t even know exist
I can`t say a lot or show picture due of copy right and privacy , but this picture is just the collection of aloe

ps I was looking at this flower and remembered you and the passion with strange small flower

 

Then how do I know that I want them?

That is some Aloe collection!

The small one was going really well. It survived the winter in the green house and then in May it died. No idea why, but the roots had just shrivelled up.
I'm now growing another Passiflora from the Decaloba subgenus - Passiflora colinvauxii. I do think that some plants are rare in cultivation simply because they are too fussy about their growing conditions.

 

the Passiflora are strange , one moment they are doing fine and then they can dye in a single day for no reasons at all , just received some seeds of Tacsonia parritae

 

Certainly true of young plants.
