Heel Spur (Medical)

Anyone have/had this. I was diagnosed as having Plantar Fasciitis 18 months ago which recently was improving but last week after (over) doing some foot stretching excercises I could hardly walk so the Doc sent me for an x ray which (as I saw) showed a Heel Spur, a calcium deposit on the bone under the heel. The pain, sudden inflammation, has worn off but I am resting my foot for a while. This is connected to PF and I wondered if anyone else has had it?

My husband had one, you need those heel thingys in your shoes, they can be quite expensive about £25 for a decent 1.

 

feel for you , painful feet are awful! i am booking in to see my doc as have trouble with my left foot an xray showed nothing so going back to see if maybe i need podiatry?

 

I use gel heel pads all the time and they have helped but I am not sure whether surgery is the only answer as I don't think the spur will disappear on it's own.

 

If you do decide to have surgery find out first if it is likely to come back otherwise you could go though all that for nothing.

 

And it *is* worth getting the better quality ones. I bought the good ones then saw a cheaper version in a local chemist so got those and they were noticeably .... c.rap!

 

Surgery doesn't guarantee success so I don't think I'll chance something that could end up worse.

 

Good thinking, all that pain for nothing. I have a Morton's neuroma which I briefly considered having removed until I read that there is quite a high chance of it returning. So I just live with the damned thing.

 

Many years ago I had what I believe was a heel spur (no x-ray), and it seemed to sort itself out. As for PF, I get it all the time. I put it down to wearing works safety shoes.
Its awful first thing in the morning. Very difficult to walk at first, but it wears off after about 15 mins (in my case). Stretching your feet and legs helps before getting out of bed. It can be very painful, and equally annoying
When I had the heart attack in June, it cleared up during the 8 weeks off work. No safety shoes

 

Shoes have a lot to answer for, when I was younger I always wore stiletto heels which I have since read are responsible for my neuroma, my Mum always used to say "those shoes will ruin your feet"

Sorry to hear you are in so much distress @Strongy,never had a heel spur so can't imagine what pain you must be in with it

When we were away a few weeks ago we walked 73 miles over that period and by the end of the holiday the flat part of my foot at the back near the heel has been really painful and can only think I have PF after doing a spot of Googling.One article I read said that women can get the problem through wearing flat shoes and standing for long periods of time,but don't know what causes it in men

@val I have Morton's Neuromas and I was told by my Podiatrist that wearing stiletto heels causes the problem but I have never worn those sort of shoes in my life and I have read that even men can suffer with itAn article I was reading yesterday said that Cortisone Injections can be used and also the nerve can be surgically removed to cure the problem.I personally think having bunions and having squashed toes even in wide fitting shoes/walking shoes/boots doesn't help the problem.

When I win the lottery that I don't do the first thing I am going to treat my self to is feet operations to cure these problems as I am so fed up with having painful toes,bunions and corns on the soles of my feet.Only problem is though is that the recovery time for all ops is months and I can't really see me wanting to be stuck indoors for months on end

 

Exactly, and when you have dogs this is not even an option.

 

Val my sister who was living in Devon at the time had hers done and hers was only a moderate bunion much like my right foot and it took over nine months for the swelling to go down as well as not being able to drive for six weeks straight after the op. I keep filing down the corns but within a few days they are back again and as I said earlier I can't even get any sensible walking shoes or boots that are wide enough as each foot is different

@strongylodon ,I read that PF is caused by an over stretching of the ligament or was it tendon in the heel stretching to the arch but I eect you already new that and you have my sincere sympathies if you have been in agony for years

I only have a bony spur on the base of my spine and know how painful that can be at times.Is there anything that can be done to correct it or do you,have to live with the condition?
