    Hi all,
I watched a programme last night called something like 'disco at the BBC'.
I was really surprised by how well people seemed to behave, and how chilled they all were.
During a performance by the Jacksons, people had plenty of room, were doing a little dancing, and seem really relaxed. I didn't even see much in the way of security.
Compared to the things I see today, it just seems very much different.
Yes, I 'was' around in the 70's, but I was just a kid/early teen, so I don't know really remember too much except the music side of it, and although I love 80'S music, I like 70's stuff just as much.
The fashion and the way the band members really enjoyed it all, is great
Have a look at the video below, the dancing does make me chuckle, especially during the bridge at 2:30
So what did 'you' think of the 70's (all aspects of it), was it a fun decade, or a difficult one for example?

I was only 6 by the end of the 70s, but I still remember smelly cars that oozed stinky blue smoke from their exhaust pipes, punks who I thought looked amusing, and my dad and his friends wearing flares and cultivating enormous beards.

For me it was a fun time, much more freedom than today.. Much simpler way of life I think, not the threats and fears we seem to face today.. My daughter was a seventies child being born in '71.. Your money went so much further then as we didn't have all the wants and desires of today.. I liked the sixties too as it really was all "happening" then...:yay: Oh yes Flares long skirts and dresses... Went to the first two Pilton Festivals at Worthy farm in 70 & 71 and the Isle of Wight festival and saw Jimi Hendrix along with so many others... Fantastic times....

We had hot pants that had straps that crossed at the back with a bib at the front and you had to practically undress every time you went to the loo to spend a penny,a bit like you have to now :biggrin:and mini skirts that was so short that if you bent down you was worried you might split your differential:snork:

I also wore tank tops, shirts with long cuffs that you folded back flares or bell bottoms and I also had one of those suede coats that had fur trim all round the edge.I think they were call Afgan(sp) coats:snork: And I was still only a young teenager at the time:biggrin:

        I remember those coats :)
Its good to see parkas returning to the shops :blue thumb:
I had a pvc jacket, and thought I was well cool :heehee:
I saw lots of girls wearing blouses with loads of gathering at the front on the tv programme. I liked the hairstyles back then, even if the boys did copy the girls :heehee:
The women always looked very feminine, with nice make up.

The late '60's and early '70's were my era. Fashion wise there was certainly a mixed bag of things going on, mini skirts, hipsters, maxi coats etc. There were also the colours.....I decorated my bedroom in purple, gold and pink. :doh:Music was also mixed, with anything from reggae to rock and motown.

My dress and music were perhaps a little more diverse at that time, maxi and midi lengths were what I preferred. I had my first maxi coat while I was still at school and although they were banned there were ways of smuggling it in. :) In the early '70's I was working in banks in London where dress you could say was on the sober side. One maxi coat I owned was so OTT in pattern and colour I had to take it off in the foyer, I didn't dare walk through the open plan offices in it. My mum despaired when I walked down the street with her. :heehee: My music ranged from Tyrannosaurus Rex (before T.Rex), Led Zeppelin (I'm a life fan), Deep Purple, Cream and so on.

This is me in more sober dress at a wedding in Harwich, Essex.

This was originally my husbands car before we married, a Vauxhall Viva HA and a nightmare to keep on the road mechanically. It always broke down at night, miles from anywhere and when we couldn't get hold of my dad to bail us out. It was finally scrapped after developing a crack in the engine block.
              img109.jpg

This song was from an album called 'A Beard of Stars' It's incorrectly titled as T.Rex as they were then known as Tyrannosaurus Rex.

I have the same memories as above born end of 1950, the Mary Quant fashions as modelled by Twiggy, going to the local civic halls, even youth clubs, and seeing the pop idols of the day, for pennies admission. Trying to remember any trouble, there may have been the odd skuffle by two lads, but never anything major, and it was usually only overseen by two people, one of which was probably a vicar.
