I suspect it will need a head-clean if left on for, say, 24 hours before it will be able to print good copy?

Nope, it, almost, never needs a head clean! :blue thumb: Cheap printer, very cheap ink and always OK. :)

Just an update about my request to the Council to put a shield on the Sodium Vapour Street Light in the lane at the bottom of my garden.
I've been waiting for them to take the action that they promised [i.e: put a shield on the Lamp] but, until yesterday, nothing had been done. However, we now have an interesting development. I've been checking the Street Light every day to see if a shield had been fitted but forgot to do yesterday due to being busy. Tonight as it got dark I went out into the garden and thought "Strange??" The light from the Street Light was White not Orange!!! So the Council seems to have decided to experiment as they've changed the Lamp from Sodium Vapour to an LED!!
Now, as far as I remember, while the guy from the Council and I talked about the pro's and con's of LED lighting there was no mention of changing over the lamp. So now the offending Street Light is the only one on the lane as an LED while all the others on either side being Sodium Vapour.

They've been billing me for it ever since I bought my House, Jenny, over 30 years ago!!!:gaah::heehee:

There's great apprehension among the amateur Astronomer's world regarding LED street lighting, with a lot of people believing it could make light pollution even worse. I have to say that the light seems to be less harsh and more confined than the original Sodium Vapour but it's still spreading into the garden. But I can now see a comparison between the Street Lights on either side of the LED light and it seems to me that there is less light going upwards than the Sodium Vapour Lamp. But due to the height of the Street Lamp I can still see the glare of the LED element, [as I could with the Sodium Vapour Lamp], from my Kitchen door. So I'll wait until the middle of November to see if the Council is also going to fit a Shield on the lamp. If they haven't I've be using the card they left me to contact them about how good their actions have been.:coffee::snork:

The light seems to be less all pervading, FC, and that might be down to the design of the Lamp lens. Also the white light seems to be less harsh and as I said earlier the light doesn't appear to be stray upwards in comparison to the neighbouring Sodium Vapour lamps.:dunno::snork:

That is my experience of it too - I am using LED increasingly for domestic lighting, and I must admit that I generally prefer the quality of the light (and the energy saving is a real bonus)

Isn't it amazing! They were very obliging about putting up the shield then came along and did something different. I wonder if there are two council departments at work here and they're not conferring with each other. You may still get that shield yet Armandii! :)

I'd suspect that they went and priced up a suitable shield, saw the price and thought 'sod it, for another £50 we can have a whole new light there' - I'd be surprised if the rest of your street is not converted soon @ARMANDII.

I suspect that you're right, FC, and that the Street Lighting Department is using it as part experiment and part pilot scheme. If they do decide to change the lot it won't affect me dramatically as it will only be the lane at the bottom of my garden so it will affect the residents further up the lane. I live in a cul-de-sac with only 6 houses in it and only two Sodium Vapour Street Lights.....one of which is not working and hasn't been for weeks!!:heehee:
I don't think any of my neighbour's has, or will, report the none working Street Light as we all think one light is enough and the neighbour who has the working light directly in front of his house would be quite happy if that one wasn't working either. We all have IR sensor lighting on the front and back of our houses so that's adequate lighting as far as we are concerned.:dunno::coffee::snork:

A ladder, a little superglue and a small piece of aluminium should solve the problem :blue thumb:
