I thought i'd put this in the haunted part of the forum & then if any of the other staff are brave enough, they can come in here and move it somewhere else:OUCH: This is the only part of the forum that goes backwards so I might have to swap the parts one and two around, we'll see. Pt 3 / The Signal Man a short ghost story by Charles Dickens - YouTube Pt 4 / The Signal-Man by Charles Dickens - YouTube Don't watch it Sheal or Flowerpot, it is trully terifiying
Cracking story 130 odd years old and still holds interest My father was a signalman, and his box was 22 miles from the nearest village Spent one night there with him when I was about 12 apart from my Dad to protect me I have never been so scared pitch black, no one for miles around Apart from my Dad I do not know how all the signalmen did it Over many years, during the night he had "vistors" usually escapee's from Durham prison, one was a murderer but he just wanted a cup of tea and a warm on his way South All I remember is the pitch black middle of nowhere, tick tock tick tock tick tock of the clock and those Bells along with the crash of the signals being pulled It did not help things seeing the remains of the death crash from 1917 lying down the embankment opposite :-( Damn good movie though Jack McH
I too was a former Signaller and had seven signal boxes and five crossings, all needing my attention over various shifts. Trouble with these places is, they are hard to get to and so remote that a lot of people had no idea where the little track off the main road took them. Still go out to the track at night and alone for the most part, when there is trouble of any nature it is up to the trades to get there and resolve any situation which needs to be in all kinds of weather. Take your hats off to the people who keep it all running smoothly.
@"M" you shouldn't come into 'GC's Question Time', it's haunted in here and you may not get out again!
