I've been having a debate with someone about bedding. They think I'm bonkers for ironing my bedlinen. I disagree - sinking into a comfy bed with freshly ironed bedlinen is one of life's little pleasures :wub2:

I do tend to buy cotton bedding with a high thread count (between 400 and 600) so it does need more ironing, but I also find it very relaxing, plus the bedding is smoother/more silky when ironed (the tumble dryer tends to make the threads 'stand up' in my opinion). I don't know why I like ironing bedding, because I hate ironing otherwise and will only iron clothes if they absolutely need it and even then I do it just before I wear them.

So, yay or nay to ironing bedding? :dunno:

My iron only gets used in my sewing room or on very special occasions.

I don't iron my bedding, I used to but by the time I'd got from one end to the other, the first bit was creased again so I gave up on that :)

I iron all my bedding as well as I can't bare to get into a bed that has got creased up sheets and pillow cases:yikes: I made the mistake of buying some 800 thread cotton sheets /pillow cases from John Lewis and they are a nightmare to steam iron because when they get washed the machine puts even more creases in them and the creases don't drop out even on the washing line as the material is so stiff:frown:

I tend to iron everything apart now from socks, bras, and my pants but I do iron Mr Kandys boxers.:snork:I even iron tea towels, hand towels, flannels and larger towels as I hate them hanging on their towel rails with creases in them.

Luckily,I do like ironing as I have been doing all my own stuff since I was 12 as coming from a very large family it was a case of learning to do it or the stuff didn't get washed so to me ironing is no big deal:snork:

Sorry forgot what the question was:snork:

Definitely bed linen! I even iron socks (who wants to put on a crusty sock :eeew: which they do become over time ... if they don't get holes in first :heehee:)

I was at college with women from a variety of backgrounds/origins and this came up in conversation. One of the ladies (not native born) was aghast at the thought that some people didn't iron underwear: "But that's how you kill off any remaining bacteria!!!" :yikes: Interesting thought - especially in this day and age where we are all encouraged to launder at 30 degrees ;)

When we first got married and I was only 24 and didn't know any better I used to iron my bras and Mr Kandys socks and the socks were laid flat ironed and then put flat as a pile in his draw after everything had been aired and yes in those days I did iron my pants but then got a bit older and wiser so left off ironing those things although I do still air them.:snork:

I tried washing our stuff once on a low temperature (30) and when I came to hang them outside to dry the clothes still smelt dirty and didn't look clean so I went back to washing them at 60 degrees and have had no problem since. Also I was talking one day to someone who used to work for one of those energy companies and they said that to kill off bacteria the washing has to be done at a minimum of 60 degrees and no less or else the bacteria isn't killed off.No wonder people are always being ill all the time and their kids have all manor of ailments:yikes:

@wiseowl - I have one of those in daily use ...
... it resides on the lid of my kitchen bin to prevent a certain scavenger ( :doggieshmooze: ) from going on a treasure hunt :heehee:

Yes , I iron the bedding. Must confess, I like it when they are old and have worn soft.
Don't like the fitted sheet corners though....:gaah:

Agreed! Especially when hanging them on the line .. those fitted corners just do not hang right :nonofinger:

My mother taught me how to do "hospital corners" when I was only 10yrs old. I felt sooooo privileged to have her undivided attention and to be let in to the mystery of the dark arts of making a bed - properly! :wub2:

Then, a week later, I learned her sordid secret :th scifD36: ...

... she had secured me a Saturday morning job at a local B&B .... making beds, cleaning the sinks and washing the greasy-from-Full-English-breakfast dishes (avec congealed fat :nonofinger: ) :eeew:
 Hmm: :spinning: she-loved-me; she-loved-me-not; she-loved-me (?) :spinning:  :dunno: :heehee:

Does anyone remember those sheets they brought out in nylon? useless things but they didn't need ironing! :) When I was using low temperatures all the time the washing machine had a horrid smell in the drum, I too have gone back to 40 or 60/
