Not that I've ever noticed. Its more of an annoyance than a worry. It means I have to ignore anything that looks deep fried at buffets unless I know what they were deep fried in, but even if I still eat something that reacts, like I said, just like getting a cold for a couple of hours.

In the short term may want to carry some Piriton just to make you more comfy if it happens again Clue. It may also be worth seeing your doc to see if you can be referred for allergy testing, just so you know for certain what you are reacting to. It may seem a bit of a fuss but this type of allergy can escalate very quickly. As Zigs said you may need to carry an Epi pen.
      Nag over!:snork:

3 doctors over many visits this year failed to find out why I was so ill. I had to collapse unconscious and come to within inches of death, pumped full of drugs of many colours including some that made me have no idea what day it was or if it was day or night, before anyone within the NHS took it seriously. They're never going to find a food allergy unless I drop dead as a result of one, in which case they'll probably flick through my records, find that I used to smoke, and say it must have been that.

Me too (for bee stings) but I lost it!

I presume that they did test for a food (or any other) allergy?

Was one of the docs a allergy specialist Clue or were they just dealing with your immediate problem?
Sorry to nag and I understand your frustration but if you haven't already seen a specialist you need to go to your GP and get a referral. The specialists are few and far between generally based in teaching hospitals and it may require persistence on your part to get to see one. But it could save your life Clue so would be worth it!
Zigs and LongK get thee to thy docs for new pens!,:snork:

No point. Even when I knew where it was I never remembered to take it anywhere with me.

No, no: don't stop! You *did* me a favour ... reminded me that I still hadn't signed up to a GP in this area (which I have now rectified :) ). Now, that may not have been your intention when posting ... but, hey - reSULT! :dbgrtmb:

To cut a long story as short as possible, this all started around Christmas time, when we were all smoked out by a fire that broke out at the local works and lasted for about 3 weeks. I developed a chest infection. I went to see the GP, who seemed like he was in a rush and fobbed me off with antibiotics without even examining me. I sacked that GP and went to a different one. Over the following months, I saw both GPs at the new surgery many times, as I was not getting better. In fact I was getting worse. Constant chest and abdominal pain, muscular weakness, permanent nausea and random bouts of dizziness. I had my chest x-rayed, doctor confessed afterwards that he'd seen in my notes that I'd been a smoker, and suspected lung cancer. Thankfully it wasn't that. I went on an ECG several times and had innumerable blood tests. They found nothing. I asked if I should have had the barium thingy before the chest x-ray, as I'd read that without it, a number of things would not show up. Doc was not interested. In fact all they were interested in doing was sending me away with a different prescription every week (literally). They had no idea. Then one day in summer I was at work and I felt worse than usual. I drove home (at home time, didn't leave early) and got steadily worse. So I phoned my GP and was told to come in straight away. So off I went, to find the place closed. I considered coming home again but at this point I didn't feel safe to drive. I was in so much pain, and I felt dizzy like I was drunk, so I took myself to the walk-in that is in the same building. There I reported acute chest pains, sat and waiting, nearly passed out, got rushed in in front of everyone else, got attached to an ECG, heard an alarm go off, saw someone run towards the defibrilator, then heard (but not felt) the crash that was apparently me collapsing and falling full force back onto the trolley I was on. Then no more until some unknown time later when I woke to see paramedics loading me into an ambulance and I was full of wires and tubes. Apparently one of the tubes was filling me with morphine.

So of I go to hospital, where my bloods apparently showed that I was fighting a very serious infection, and they decided it was in the region of my gall bladder. They decided that my gall bladder had blocked and then ruptured and filled my body with chemicals bile that had got to places it shouldn't. Great. Now we know what's been happening. Except no. The theory went out of the window when an ultrascan showed that all my inerds were the right shape. Since then I've had an endoscopy, and next month I'm going off to the cardio ward too see if my heart is good, but I'm assured this is just a precaution.

So this is in effect a full year of unexplained illness that climaxed with me nearly dying. At at least one point during all this, I asked if it could be diet related, and was told my diet is not only ok but very healthy (lots of fish and fruit at the time). I even asked about allergies, pointing out that I eat quite a lot of nuts. The answer to that was to just eat the things I suspect I might be allergic to and see if anything happens. For real.

I should point out that apart from the first GP that I switched away from, I can't fault any of the NHS staff that have been involved in my case. They all have, as far as I can tell, done what they could based on the information they had access to. Apart from the massive infection (which itself is unexplained as they said the infected organ is effectively a sealed unit unless it gets injured), they couldn't figure it out.

So pretty much a full year on, I've had enough. After my hospital admission, I binned the new healthy diet and went back to my old fairly healthy but not 'textbook' diet, decided I'd just live my life, joined a martial arts club and started to get my fitness and strength back. I realised that the future is not to be taken for granted, while at the same time there's no point worrying about it. At this stage I'm not bothered about seeing any medical people again. I'll go to my cardio appointment just because its already made, and if something scary comes out of that, I'll deal with it when I know what I'm dealing with, but for now, I'm just going to get on with living.

Sorry, I said at the beginning I was going to cut a long story short. Well I did my best, but it seems its still quite long:)
