P1050676.JPG I made my Poppy today. As I sat there, I thought of all those who had given their life for my safety and my freedom. It was hard to imagine the sorrow and grief their going had brought about. What a price to pay - no greater sacrifice than that.
I phoned 0845 8451945 to donate and Gift Aid my donation which really does make a difference.
I will wear this with pride

Good for you Jenny. I'll be watching the Remembrance day service, sadly there are no more veterans from WW1 to pay respect to in person, the last of the last was Henry Allingham.

We have two of the ones that are sold each year and wear them with thoughts of relations who gave their lives for us to enjoy our freedom:smile:

We also have on order two of the poppies that have been placed along side the 888,200+ ones that represent all those who lost their lives for us all:smile:

Not sure when we shall actually gets ours, sometime after the New Year I should imagine as they are not going to start dismantling them, cleaning them up and packaging them and sending them out until after November 11th but glad we ordered them as we know the money will go to help many good causes:smile:

          Gorgeous poppy, Jenny!

Jenny, may I ask: why are you using "Gift Aid"? As far as I am aware, you are not a tax payer :noidea:

If Jenny has a works pension as well as a State pension she is likely to be a tax payer.

Gift Aid is an excellent way of donating but just as a warning to anyone who isn't a tax payer, if you donate by Gift Aid you may get a bill from the Revenue for the tax that they have given to the charity in your name.

                  Lovely poppy Jenny :)

We got our poppies the other night, and had a few moments chat with the chap who was selling them - - and knowing me I will end up buying more when I am working this weekend, as I always forget to move my poppy onto my big 'rugby' jacket - - still, I don't mind one jot as its for a good cause.

There is apparently some sort of campaign running to have the ceramic poppies kept where they are - - - I think that would be a fitting, permanent reminder of all those fallen for the benefit of us all.

Yes for an extra year, which would be great, they have raised £11.2 Million so far. It would give more of us a chance to go and see them, we are not going to be able to get to London before Nov 11th so I'm hoping they do extend, it would raise even more money I'm sure.

You all need to go to Specsavers as Batty Boris actually said the poppies need to be in place for an extra WEEK so that more people get to see them:snork:

Would have been nice to go down there, but don't fancy being crushed by fifteen deep bods:biggrin:At least it is bringing money into the capital which will help the 8 or 9 Squillian people that already live and try to breath down there:snork:

It's a great memorial, despite the naysayers and that idiotic 'art critic', Jonathan Jones, from the Guardian.

We were going to go up there to see them on Saturday as we were supposed to go to the Lord Mayor's Show. Having seen the amount of people that have already been there and, we understand, it will be even more crowded this weekend, so we have decided not to go.

It's a pity that the poppies won't be there longer as I would like to have seen them and I also have an emotional tie to the Tower.

The debate on the amount of money raised will go on for ages but there's a lot of nonsense spoken about that, too! Whatever the outcome, the charities are happy for the money that has been raised and it has been a good stimulus for youngsters to have learnt something about a war that should never be forgotten.

Actually there is an online petition on the gov website for an extra year, it's been going for a while before Boris jumped on the bandwagon.

I can't see another year happening. They may be ceramic but they aren't that sturdy. They're going to have to be cleaned before being sent to the purchasers.

My apologies JWK but I wasn't aware of any on line petition to keep them there for a year, only saw that Batty Boris was chunttering on about it in the Daily Mail which I read on line last evening:biggrin:

As I said in a previous post they can't leave them where they are for too long becSue if it snows heavily or we get severe frosts then they won't stand being out in those elements.

The condition of sale is that if purchasers are not happy when they receive their poppies then a full refund will be sent out to them. Those poppies that will be at the end of the display will be in better condition than the thousands that have been there for months.:thumbsup:We are the 225+ 000 recipients so there was another 600+000 put into the ground after ours:love30:
