Has Anyone Ever Used ?.

Has anyone ever used a Flame Gun on a badly overgrown garden?.

I have an elderly lady neighbour who's garden is really badly overgrown with small and very tall weeds,it hasn't been tended for a number of years and it looks like a piece of derelict ground.

I offered to clear the place up for her,as nobody else seems to be bothering.
I was thinking of using a Flame Gun next year, around the month of March to bring the garden into some shape, so she can sit out in Summer again, as she used to do.

The garden has had garden stones/chips / path slabs/ laid many years ago but being left so long unattended everything is so overgrown. .

Any Tips Would Be Grateful ..

I was thinking of hiring one of these to clear the allotment, so would also like to to hear from others who have tried this method.

 

I think its really thoughtful and considerate of you to think of this, but I'm not sure that fire is the way forward in the situation you describe. I'm going to take it for granted that you've considered all the safety ins and outs, so I wont go there. But have you thought about the amount of smoke that will be produced? I know when the national park people torch the wildlife every year the smoke clouds are choking at times, and come right over the main road. I imagine doing something similar in a residential setting might get you shouted at a bit. Especially if someone's got their washing out. Is not glyphosate and a strimmer the way to go?

I have used a small flame gun , mainly for weeds growing in paving cracks, trouble is perennial weeds just reappear after a few days, I like watching the blighters turn to ash though.

 

I was wondering this, does torching the weeds kill the roots? Very kind of you to think of this though!!

 

What a kind gesture ! - Now, to the question in hand. How big is the area to be cleared? - if not so large it might be worth pulling up / digging out any large perenniel weeds individually then strimming or scything the remainder, clearing up then applying Glyphosate in the spring.

I have used the small flame gun for burning weeds off on the drive and patio . Great fun to use but not much use in my opinion . The weeds grow back very quickly as the roots have not been effected. Alex post above is the way I would tackle this . Very nice gesture by the way
