        Our Girls Are Back! :hapydancsmil:

Our pheasants have been missing for five months . This is something that never happened when they had Oscar the cat to guard them and play with them. :)

Five of our girls have turned up this morning (two more to go) and they're a little bit skittish at the moment.

It's been so dull that I haven't been able to photograph them properly but here they are

Do you find they disappear and go to ground during the shooting season @shiney?

They never used to, as they stayed in the garden all the time. When we were gardening it was quite normal to suddenly have a pheasant run out from under a plant and go running off whilst squawking at the top of her voice. The males just used to stalk slowly out from the plants and walk off with a look of distain on their faces. :)

They have started harvesting the sugar beet behind us so that has probably been the reason for coming back.

Even the pigeons hate rainy Sundays.

Saw this one looking soggy and fed up just a few feet from the house this morning.

Never mind, I'm sure it'll feel better when it spots my brassicas at the bottom of the garden.

Now that poor Stoggie does look fed up,poor thing:sad:

Not long since put the chooks in their run but had to get Mrs Hawk out first,a beautiful bird:wub2: She's in charge of pest control..there's too many mice around for my liking.I knew if I went back to the house to get the camera she would be gone and the chooks would follow me so missed a good a picture :rolleyespink:

Ah, the local "hoover". I love the collared doves and they shoo off the wood pidgeons here. They look so gentle and passive but are quite brave. We only have a pair and they do ground clearance so they are useful,
                        thank you Roders,

We're still getting plenty of birds.

Five of our female pheasants returned at the weekend, the male put in an appearance today (yelling at me from the top of the bonfire heap), a family of great spotted woodpeckers take it in turn on the peanut feeder (so we have a woodpecker for most of the day), lots of greenfinches, blue tits and great tits, three robins, two wrens, an occasional flock of long-tail tits and a couple of wagtails, a few goldfinches, lots of chaffinches, one green woodpecker, pigeons, collared doves, magpies (regularly chased off by the doves), sparrows (only started reappearing this year), starlings (also chased by the doves) and crows. :phew:

They get through 20kg of seed in six weeks - plus peanuts and fat cakes. I've just ordered some more feed. The last four digits of the feed company's phone number are 2820 :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
