Went into the living room last night to watch a DVD, thought I would put my gas fire on as it was chilly. When you turn the knob the pilot light should come on only now it doesn't anymore, this is a 'top of the range' gas fire which is a year old, so you click the knob, click again, click again, keep this up for a while and eventually it will light !!! put my DVD into the machine but the DVD player decided it didn't want to play it, loading...
loading...loading...loading... 'NO DISC'. OK, I'll watch live TV, adverts after adverts after adverts, OK I'll watch BBC, a load of women running around trying to play football, what happened to being feminine we shall never know :dunno:
Anyone know where I can get a DVD player repaired!?!?! only joking, I'll buy another and this one can go to landfill with all the millions of others that have broken down!!!!
Modern living drives me nuts :rolleyespink: OK, rant over, I shall take my dog for a walk, dogs are the only sane thing left in this world.!!!!

That's very frustrating Val. Have you tried a different DVD just in case it's the disk that's failed rather than the player.

It's still worth trying another disk Val, we had to return a brand new one once as it didn't play.

Come to France, Val:) We're 50 years behind the UK, no option for replacement of faulty goods...they're repaired! Sometimes several repairs before they throw in the towel and give you a voucher redeemable only instore ;)
I've given up on most French radio.....more adverts than 'Gardener's World' magazine, but you've got to love French TV.......makes ITV look intellectual!
Hang in there, sister.........pilot lights were infiltrated by the KGB decades ago..well known State secret:th scifD36:

But the disc plays fine on the computer!! :dunno: It has done this before with other discs, it's a bit inconvenient when the DVD player starts choosing which discs it wants to play!! No, I can't be messing with stuff that isn't reliable, they're cheap as chips now even a multi region one, so this one is on its way to landfill!!!! :lolpt:

I think there's a clue in having to put the fire on cos its chilly, and the DVD refusing to play, and my old Gothilda developing a horrible misfire until she's warmed up.

In cold damp weather, condensation forms. It sometimes forms on the lenses of the lasers that you find in DVD players and CD players. When that happens, they can't focus, and so can't read the disk. Its something nobody thought of back in the late 1980s and early 1990s when they said the disks would last forever and we would never need another format.:)

Maybe try your DVD player again once the room has been warm for a while. Back in the early 1990s when I was briefly the teenaged gofer for a TV and video repair place, we used to advise the customers to keep their gear somewhere reasonably warm but well ventilated, and keep it all switched on standby all the time so that condensation wouldn't form inside it.

Some might say that football is very feminine. It seems to involve lots of vanity and lots of emotion that men (with the exception of football fan men) simply can't comprehend.

Of course some might also say that if a man had asked what happened to women being feminine, it would be considered an outrage by some.:)

Only play football with the dogs these days, but as my normal gear while digging the garden, decorating the house, unblocking drains etc etc is trainers or wellies with jeans, no one could accuse me of being feminine unfortunately :heehee:

During the war there were a lot of all-women football teams as all the men had gone off to foreign parts.

Wartime is different!! I just knew that this sentence would be picked on :heehee: but IMO women playing men's sports like football, rugby, cricket, snooker, is daft, and as for women BOXING!!!! :hate-shocked:

Val, I respect your point of view and I wouldn't want to watch women doing those sports (I don't watch men doing them either :heehee:), but I think that feminists would question why they shouldn't be able to do those sports - and why they should be considered to be men's sports.

There are hundreds of women's football teams in this country and thousands around the world. Also I think there are dozens of football leagues in this country (I still don't watch football :roflol:).
