There are a lot about in the London area, some flocks are of 60 or more staying close but there are pockets of small flocks and individuals around mainly Southern UK. Any seen in the Midlands and North are probably escapees. When in numbers they can be a pest and exclude other birds from feeding and some people dislike them intensely.
They are now classed as a non native British bird so they are here to stay although if Defra decides after monitoring them that they are adversely affecting native birds,e g Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, there may have to be action taken, I hope not.

@Jungle Jane it's now known as the Rose Ringed Parrakeet but many years ago was just Ring Necked parakeet and for many of us still is.

It's the collared doves that chase the magpies away in our garden. Magpies are around most of the time but they tend to move out of the way for the doves (bird of peace! :heehee:).

The Jays here seem to be as nervous as the woodpeckers - but both lots are here most of the time at this time of year.

@Jungle Jane I like your grasses and teasels. :blue thumb:

I know a flock of about 10-20 of them roost in the local graveyard just a stones throw away from our house. I come in contact with a lot of bird watchers and they too see them as a pest. I don't think they are. I've heard stories that Earling studios released them or something like that.

                                I didn't know that.....

Yeah it does look a bit untidy but the birds love it. Yesterday I was about to go into the garden when a huge group of birds came along and were not only on my feeders but eating from the plants too. I had goldfinches on the teasels, blackbirds foraging and sparrows in my grasses ripping the seeds off.
