Poinsettia advice please.

I do usually have a good search on here before I pose a query ... I think my enthusiasm just ran away with me a tad

Of course the counter argument could also be: if we all did that, there would be no opportunity for newer gardeners to add their wisdom to a topic and the whole concept of a forum would collapse and be nothing more than an archive.

Reading through one of my books recently, a very interesting comment caught my eye, and it was this: if you don't grow it, you don't know it! I thought that was a really profound statement and I could relate to that. So, in that vein, the fluidity of topics (and, lest we forget, members) means that a topic can very quickly become stale and a new issue on that same topic can also become quite refreshing in its responses

All good advice to which I will only add that the sap, being a Euphorbia, can cause a rash or itchy skin if coming into contact similar to Ficus sap (latex).

I planted Euphorbia in my previous garden and, fortunately, didn't have any reaction to the sap - but, I had no idea poinsettia was of a similar ilk. Now I'm aware of it, I'll be more cautious. Good advice and appreciated.

They never last long for me .

 

A couple of weeks ago at work, the lady of the house announced that instead of having the usual Christmas tree, this year she would like to have a 'Poinsettia Tree' and duly presented us with about two dozen poinsettia plants to look after in the meantime.

So, into the warm greenhouse they went, while our handyman set about inventing and constructing a wooden frame suitable for mounting all the plants, to give the appearance of a 'tree'.

Meanwhile the plants were kept cosseted in the greenhouse, (constant temperature between 15-20°C, not too dry, not too wet, plenty of light, no draughts etc.) and duly behaved themselves.

So, today came the moment of truth. The whole thing was duly assembled and this is the end result. The first photo partly shows the framework which was made up and the second is the finished article. Sorry about the poor picture quality, but you get the idea.

I think it was about two dozen Spruce. There are five 'layers' in all and if I remember correctly, from the bottom layer upwards it goes; 8, 6, 5, 4 and one on top.
